Color photographs from 1939-1943.

Bird,

Surely you remember color pictures from the 1930s like The Wizard Of Oz and Gone With the Wind.

Of course I've seen both of those movies more than once, and had just forgotten how long ago they were made. And some of the old movies that were made in black & white were "colorized" in more recent years, so I just hadn't really thought about it. If they were using color photograpy for both still photos, slides, and movies that far back, I wonder why they still made some movies in black & white even into the '50s.

Of course I was born in 1940, my family got our first TV in 1954, and I got my first color TV in 1968. Was it just cheaper for them to film in black & white?

Was it just cheaper for them to film in black & white?

I remember many years ago when I would buy film for my camera that the color film was more expensive than the black & white. And if they were shooting films for TV why waste color film if you were just going to see it in B&W?

I don't remember what year TV switched to all color in prime time but I do remember watching many prime time shows in B&W in the mid 70s.

Oh no! I hope we aren't beginning to reminisce about the "good old days" when cameras actually used film.

notice many (most) of the pics have very good representations of "true" blue and "true" red.

when reproducing them from the slides it is these 2 colors that allow the new photos to be developed "correctly" and therefor have such great "color" even today.
