While I once owned a '62 Vette, and appreciate them all (including the '58 previously posted), IMO the prettiest one of all time was the 1957. No huge fins and no excessive chrome -- except in the "toothy grille". Understated, in comparison to the 58-62, and not as "radical" as the 64-67 Stingrays.

EDIT: My brother's longest lasting car was a 1951 buick staight 8 with a Dynaflow transmission. As hard as he tried, he could not blow up that car and actually ended up selling it.

Back in the late 60's, I went to a drag strip near Abilene Texas. It was "run what ya brung" bracket racing and paid a few bucks to the overall winner.

Some guy had and old 50 something Buick with the Dynaflow. He took home the money, not because he was a great racer, but the slug passed through the lights every run within a tenth of a second of his set time. He just floored it at the line and made the flying quarter at about 50 MPH! Couldn't spin the wheels, wouldn't go any faster!

But weren't they a Yenko car, not a Chevy factory delivery? Didn't Yenko Chevrolet put the tweaked 427 in the car?

From Wikipedia
1967

Yenko ordered L-78 equipped SS Camaros and swapped in the Chevrolet Corvette's L-72 427 inウ (7.0 L) V8. The cars came with a 4.10 rear end and heavy-duty suspension. The exact number of cars produced is not known; most estimates are around 50. Yenko also installed a fiberglass replacement hood similar to the "Stinger" hood featured on 1967 big-block Corvettes.

Don Yenko's Camaros were equipped with a 427ci L-72 in them with either an M21 or M22 transmission. The horsepower was rated at 423 hp (315 kW). Yenko Camaros were not allowed to race for Chevrolet on the drag strip because they were not made by Chevrolet.

I think the fastest were the Hemi Cuda's of the late 60's. But, they were not street legal...

That was the difficult part; Ford was next fastest to Mopars. Then GM. UNTIL... NASCAR, NHRA ect started restricting the Hemi's so the other manufacturers could compete.

I believe they were "rated" at 425 but realistically they were closer to 500. It ran something like 10.80 in a 1/4 mile with headers and slicks, no other mods. I think there were 35 of them made and only 7 known examples left. It is possibly the rarest muscle car of the 60's-70's and I really, really don't think I will get my hands on one.... ever. :(

Yenko took the Nova and put the 427 out of the Corvette into it. It was not ordered that way from the factory, as the factory would not do it like they would for the Camaros and Chevelles due to insurance liabilities.

The Nova with the Corvette 427 weighed less than the Corvette with the 427, so you can pretty much guess that it was faster than the Corvette in the 1/4 mile... and faster than the Camaro and the Chevelle, too.

To quote Don Yenko when asked about the 1969 Yenko 427:
"a beast, almost lethal, a car that they should not have produced; as they were skirting the edge of product liability when they built this car?
