No One Was Hurt

No one was hurt, no physical damage, just a severely bruised ego. My buddy rolled his tractor over backwards on a hill. He's driven this hill a thousand times, but it only takes one accident. He said the tractor just lifted and rolled to the right without warning in a split second. A tree caught the bucket preventing it from rolling over on him. Notice the missing bark in the first picture.

Lessons learned:

Buy a roll bar.
Buy a seat belt.
Backup the hill.

Glad he is OK. Looks like he might have had the loader kind of high in the air though. He is lucky that it caught the tree and the tractor didn't roll on over. The hill doesn't really look that steep in the photos, but have seen people roll tractors in "innocent" looking places before especially with FEL's. You can never be too careful. Since I bought a new tractor with a rollbar, I have been trying to get in the habit of putting the seatbelt on all the time. It is a good practice.

I would tend to agree with that. Look at the position of the tractor in relation to that steep bank. If you simply righted the tractor where it lays now, it would probably lay back over on its side since would it be sideways on a pretty steep hill.

My guess is he got careless/distracted/ or wasn't really paying attention and it veered left as he drove up the road. The left side got onto the steep bank and it laid over on its side.

Regardless of how it happened, the main thing is he survived it with nothing more than a bruised ego. He'll get over that, and the tractor probably will probably run again too. At least I hope so, looks like a pretty nice 8N.

I too am glad he's ok and I hope his ford is. The first thing I noticed is how high the loader was, that in combination w/ maybe putting the left wheel on the bank would have made for some center of gravity problems.

I am glad that he is ok as well. How old is that tractor? It still looks like new underneath with the red paint.. A good reminder to be careful and not complacent.

Glad he is un-scathed. I'm sure the nerves are still twitching. Lucky man.
