My 2011 F-250 Super Duty

I did not see in the article how fast they drove, if it was highway, rural roads, stop and go traffic, etc.
It definitely would be nice to at least see an average mph stat but they do say "The only rivalry in Michigan as intense as the one between the HD manufacturers is the spirited competition between the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and Michigan State University in East Lansing. That's why it made sense to drive the trucks between the two cities for our fuel economy challenge."
So it sounds like a mix of highway and city. :confused3:

 Yeah, that was my guess too. :D

They still got 1 MPG on the trucks which is pretty danged good. My guess is that I could get my current MPG on new these trucks over the route I drive. I have had cars that would not get 18MPG on mixed driving. Well most of my cars and trucks would not get that high of a MPG.

:D Lordy. I just went a priced out a new Ford truck to match my current truck! $55,000! :confused2::ashamed::eek:

I thought what I paid 9 years ago was outrageous.....

At the rate the prices are going, when I buy a new truck in 10 years, it will cost $100,000 for a pick up truck.

Later,
Dan

:thumbdown::laughing:

I hate the new tonka Donk look of the SD's. The last model looked a lot better.

Yawn.

Nice truck I guess.

The truck looks great. My question is this...why do most people need that much power? Maybe in a 1 ton or 2 ton, but don't you think you might exceed the capabilities of a 3/4 ton before you reach what 700+ ft/lbs can really handle? Just a thought.

3/4 ton and 1 ton are just descriptions that us old-timers put on trucks and it had nothing to do with their actual rating.

My 1995 Ford F250 Diesel is rated to hold 4000s pound of cargo and rated to tow as much weight as an F350. Yet we refer to it as a 3/4 ton.

General Lee,

Congrads on that new truck. Super looking truck and IF the mpg is anywhere near what's been advertised, you've definitely got a winner. I only owned F-250's until this last P/U truck which is an F-150 with the 5.4 engine. With the lousy fuel mileage the F-250's were getting, and the much higher cost of diesel fuel, I just couldn't justify the added expense of the diesel to myself anymore. With the advertised mpg of this new Ford diesel, if it is reality, I may again have to look at the F-250.

I think it looks great! Who cares about MPG when you buy a big truck like that! LOL :D

...Yes, Ford is claiming very good mileage for this diesel. I doubt I will get 29 mpg but I'm expecting 17-23 mpg, which is very good for a truck this size. I may do some future mods at minimum a chip. I'll check with warranty rules. I got an extended warranty which covers everything including electrical and don't want to throw that down the tube. This truck has A LOT of computer controls so I figured better safe than sorry. Plus the turbos alone are expensive.

I can tell you right now if you chip it you void the warranty on the engine. Also they have programs built in the computer that can tell if you were running a chip and then disconnected it before you brought it in for service.

Manufactures look for anything so as not to cover warranty costs and adding thing to an engine makes you a target,

Trust me I went through two Lemon buy backs and the minute you touch a vehicle with mods you own the warranty.

Technically even if you changed the tire size and your differential went out - you own it.

I was at a dealer once and the service guys were laughing because they just told a guy his transmission warranty was void because he added something.

Now for the fun part. If they turn down your warranty because of something you did and they find out, then they put that in the computer so NO DEALER will touch you engine.

I know for a fact that this is not the case.

Thanks for feedback fellas

deerefan- It is a lot of power I don't need, but its there for the future to tow larger things. Camper, Boat...etc. I've been wanting an F-250 for a long time and this is what ford offers in diesel in their new super duty's.
