Century 2028
I called a local dealer to get an idea of the cost on a FEL for my Century 2028 and got quoted $4500 for "off-brand" and $5250 for a Branson!!!

Am I missing something or is that the going rate for them? I bought the tractor and finish mower for $5000!

I don't know if that is good or bad. The dealer list for a FEL on my Kubota is about $4200. I bought mine as a package with my tractor so it was not itemized on my deal.

Those prices are about right. Lots of steel and expensive hydraulic bits on those back hoes.

Once you own a tractor the next best investment is a loader of some sort; then a hoe; then a rototiller; then a .........., does it ever stop? lol.

......then a rotary mower, a scraper blade, forks for the FEL.

This is as much fun as customizing a motorcycle!

Had that tractor been fitted with loader, you might have had to give $9000-$9500 for it? (best guessimate) Was that your shopping experience? Montana model that is a twin would give you that pricing comparison as well.

So, now you have to decide, would I have paid $10 for this? Only you can decide. Yes, typically, there is a bit of a surcharge for buying pieces individually. Also, there will be a 5-8 year "gap" in the age of the tractor and the age of the loader, if that matters to you at all.

I was hoping to hear that the dealer was way off. It would be a very nice addition...but I don't think its worth that much to me.

If I just had money to burn.....:mur:

What was the "off brand"? I find it hard to believe with a little patience you couldn't do much better than $4500 for a loader this size. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this like a Koyker model 120 size FEL we're talking about?

Sorry, for some reason I thought we were talking about backhoes. I think a FEL should be a little lower priced, say in the $3,000 range. You didn't mention it, but the dealers price probably included installation.

i recently added a loader to my 2005 2910, and had much the same shopping frustration. i got quotes on woods, bush hog and branson loaders from various local people. all ranged from $4-5.5K, and installation was 300-500 more depending on who I was talking to.

After a lot of internet shopping, I ended up buying a BL25S from on of the site sponsors in CA. He got me a VERY good deal, that was substantially below anything I was quoted locally. All correspondence was over the phone or through email, and it could not have gone smoother. I live about 2 hours from Rome, GA where Branson is HQ'ed, and drove up there to get it.

I put it on myself in about 10-12 hours from start to finish with nothing more than hand tools and grunt work, and I am a rank novice wrench turner compared to some guys on the board. I recently added some pallet forks, and for the life of me, I don't understand how I had the tractor for 3 years without the loader. It has added a whole new level of functionality, and has made lots of jobs lots easier.

You can search my posts for details on the installation.
