Country music is dead?

Yep, a sign of gettin' older I guess. My favorite music was by Southern Gospel Quartets, and the good ones have all died. Next favorite was '50s and '60s Country and even rock & roll. I can't think of any "music?" (I think we're stretching things to call a lot of the current racket "music") made in the last 30-40 years that I would want to listen to. For many, many years, I never turned the radio off in my cars, and now for many years, I rarely, in fact almost never, turn a radio on.

Isn't that the truth! I never was a country fan because i'm a hard rock guy, but I do enjoy old traditional country. There is a box set for sale now called the golden age of country that I'm going to get, all the oldies! New country is just pop to me, don't like it, no personality. To each his own though.

Yes, I always listened to bluegrass, now when I turn the car radio on I go with classical music. Comes with age too, I guess, problem with country music is the lyrics just make me switch the station, there is not much to it. And I remember when Riding with private Malone came out it actually put tears in my eyes.

I guess the old stupid song just didn't pass the test of the time.

A side note - lot of old country songs actually I know with Czech lyrics too. The big difference is the original is usually more serious. For instance The cocaine blues by Johny Cash has text about ghost train bringing dead drinking buddies back by midnight - quite a difference:D

American country music was always big in my country, check this out.

Same band, newer stuff.

I can stand the new country in limited quantities, but what annoys me is the "DJs" jabbering and the commercials. The radio in my last car was an aftermarket one that had a place where I could plug in a flashdrive and play music from it. Nothing better than all my music and no DJs or commercials to listen to. My current radio doesn't allow that (stock Volvo radio), but my sweet wife is getting me one for Christmas that does.

If 'pop country' is getting you down I recommend that you go out and buy a CD by Hank Williams III. I purchased one of his CDs because I was curious to see what his music was all about. I don't think I can wait until Chirstmas to own his other 2 CDs. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Oh by the way... He sounds like his grandfather and has the rebel attitude of David Allen Coe.

I agree with most of the previous posts. I've gotten older, the music has changed, and the artist seem to me to be all about the dollar so all of these things mix as well as oil in the crankcase.

If you get the time. Check out these vids on You Tube. He is a very entertaining singer/songwriter. Some are lighthearted, sad, and some will bring back some fond memories. The lyrics are from everyday life like "That's Life" from the play list. They are a mix of acoustical and band.

Check him out, I'm sure you will enjoy.

I do miss the older country. IMO you cannot go wrong with George Strait, John Conlee, Johnny Cash, etc.... On Saturday mornings the local country station plays retro country for a few hours and then again at night for a few more hours. However, I am also able to pick up a station out of Topeka, KS and retro country is all they play. Great station. You can even live stream it. If you are interested Google "106.9 Topeka" and it should get you there.

It is Bluegrass for me with some older country throwed in occasionally. Ken Sweet

There are many good forms of music out there, Country just doesn't happen to be one of them. Learning to play four chords on a guitar and wearing boots and a big hat dose not a musician make.

BTW if country music is indeed dead, then what kind of music did they play at it's funeral?

In the old days, it seemed country music was about the lyrics and the performer. In many cases, it was a chronicle of their hard drinking, hard lives, and hard women. Today, it's about the performance and "the video" it seems. The production and flash are more important than the music. Even so, thank goodness there's not a CMA awards category for Best Country Rap Album. . .Sheesh!

If I like listening to a song on the radio where I hear just the music and performer, it's okay with me. But, if I have to watch the video to be visually stimulated or titillated, it just seems like watching a commercial, all hype.
