Good luck with the inspection today. I'm sure it will go fine.

The hardwood looks great. 2 weeks, wow. What finish is it that takes 2 weeks?

Nice load on that trailer. I hate frozen garbage. Have had the dump trailer full and frozen solid few times

The trim carpenter installed a barricade across the back door that leads to the unfinished back porch. A physical barrier is required by the county if we are to occupy the house while the back porch is unfinished.

Around here that would not pass inspection. -- The door still needs to be able to open and the railing needs to be on the outside. Fire marshal wants the door to be able to open in case of fire because doors are where people will naturally try to exit a burning building.

Good luck with the inspection.

We discussed with the county what we needed so it will be a surprise if blocking the back porch door would fail the inspection. The county would not allow us to block off the front porch, probably related to the reasons you stated.

Mike, how does a person add a back porch to an existing house in NH? Wouldn't the safety concerns in that scenario be the same as ours? Goes to show that the beaurocrats don't always use common sense.

Unfortunately getting a virus now days is not a matter of if but rather when. The ones I commonly see are either drive by downloads or social engineering tricks. The one you got was a combination of both.

I have yet to find an infection that MalewareBytes will not fix (and it is free as well). I keep it on a thumb drive. I power the computer down by holding the power button until the computer is off. I do not interact or try to gracefully shut it down. Then I go to a known non infected computer and get the latest definitions. I do that by starting MalewareBytes and having it update. Then I copy the rules.ref file to the thumb drive. This file is in different places depending OS and your security settings. Take the computer off any network and then start in safe mode. Install MalewareBytes and search for where the rules.ref file is and copy the most recent rules.ref file over it. Run MalwareBytes and let it repair any problems it may have found. Re-start the computer normally and run it again. After this it is common that you can not connect to the internet because the virus sets up a proxy server. Go to Internet Options/Connections then lan settings button. If your company uses a proxy you will have to ask them the settings otherwise make sure the "use proxy server ..." check box is not checked.

I can't assure you that this will always work but I have had good luck with it.

Russ,
Because of the lost productivity at work last week caused by the virus, I ended up having to work all day Sunday and Monday during my vacation time to meet some hard deadlines. And I'll spend many more hours over the holidays installing software and configuring the laptop to do the things I need it to do.

Obed - My wife got the same virus you got on her computer and I am pretty good at it but it beat me..We were running McAfee and had other programs that have been mentioned here and none of them worked but I was able to use a thumb drive and copy all of her docs...then I bought her a new computer and she copied all of her docs from the thumb drive..You might try that to save your work that was on the infected computer...if you use Malwarebytes.com software it gets enough of the virus off to enable you to copy docs, at least it did for me.

Whoever wrote that virus cost me a new computer so that is no different then them breaking into my home or armed robbery..they should all go to Prison for a very long time. Good Luck..

Obed - Things are looking great for your house building project. I just feel a lot of us will miss coming to this thread and reading about your progress/setbacks.

Well the only answer will be the construction of an equipment/workshop shed. So you and wifey must sit down and start planning and starting another thread. From planning to design to actual contstruction should satisfy us for a few more thousand posts. :)

Obed...expanding on Pagy's post ..How about a Reality Show...That would be great...think about what a neat show that would have been with all of your travails ...including the new baby...

Yeah, that's the ticket ..tear it down and start all over only this time with the camera rolling for a Reality Show...:mur::cool2::cool2::dance1:

We have garage doors now. We've never owned a house with an attached garage. We've never had automatic garage door openers. Being able to park a car in the garage will be quite a step up for us. I just can't imagine what it will be like to get in the car in the winter mornings before work without scraping the frost and ice off the windows.

We got the Chamberlain chain drive garage door openers. We have 3 remotes and one keypad. The keypad is wireless; I'd rather have it hard-wired but I'm not sure if they make them that way. We are happy with the installation. There's only one thing I'm not thrilled with. The door opener buttons beside the door to the kitchen are stacked vertically instead of horizontilly. You can't look at the buttons and automatically know which button goes with which door. That's a tweak I'll have to make when I don't have anything else to do.

Man, that would be the most boring show on TV. Here's how it would go.

There's Obed digging. Next day. There's Obed digging some more. Next day. Obed's still digging...

On a rare occasion something interesting would happen.

Watch Obed wreck his tractor down the hill. Oh, look! There goes Obed running his car into the ditch!

But then ...
What's Obed doing now? He's digging. Next day. More digging.

Do you think TBN would sponsor the show?
