my 4610 4WD with power reverser has been sitting since late summer and I went to do some work and at first the hydraulics were erratic. This has blossumed to no motion in forward or reverse, no hydraulic (spastic intermittant action at best) and I have change both filters to no avail. Any ideas?

Thanks - Troy

You don't say in your post so I have to ask. Are you sure the fluid level is ok in the transmission? If so, then I would check the suction line from the transmission to the hydraulic pump. Is the line bent or damaged in any way? The steel line has an oring in the filter base to seal it and it connects to a rubber mainfold on the pump. I have seen those rubber manifolds crack and suck air instead of oil. Also if the oring is worn at the filter base, it can suck air also. There is also a hose that connects line at transmission. Be sure to check manifold #21, orings #17 and hose #15

Thanks, items you suggest all appear fine and in great order, the fluid is full and appears clean with no bad smell. If I shut the tractory off for a few minutes and restart it the joystick will raise the bucket slightly, and then quit - seems like starving for fluid. I read that there may be a screen that could be plugged. I did change the filters and check fluid. The tractor worked perfectly 4 months ago in mowing season, just problematic since parked for 4 mos... thanks. Troy  Oh, the temps have been in the 40's if that is important.

I did change the filters

You changed the 'hydraulic" filter ?, did you loose any fluid during this change ?

How 'bout the return 'screen' ?

Does this unit have a portion of its return line as a rubber hose ?, check to see if it's collapsing.

I did lose about a quart or more, but topped it off with Hygard. The hoses seem to be in good shape and are not collapsing, but I have not considered the screen. Where is it and what is needed to check it? Hugs and Merry Christmas - Troy

Thanks to all of you the tractor is running GREAT and it was the screen. Full of what appears to be organic sludge. Never has run smoother. I still don't know where all the hyd fluid came out from since it only took about 7 gallons and I drained over 9 but who cares! Now, what was the reason that I wanted to use the tractor anyway?

Hate to say so; this is the hardest time of the year to get a tractor started. Than compound the problem with a long no-run time. Can you get the tractor to heated indoors?
