Lost the key...

I even had it on the orange Kubota key ring! :confused2: We were out and I realized I had the key it in the pocket of my jacket, so I put it back in. I think it then might have fallen out in a parking lot or something...

Which parking lot? I could use a kubota.:laughing::laughing:

My son lost my 4 wheeler key in the snow here a couple years ago.

One day, I walked by the back door and a flash from outside caught my eye.

The setting sun glinted off the key outside right into my eyes:)

I recently lost my truck key. I distinctly remember putting it in my shirt pocket where i always keep it along with my tractor key. It was the original with the door clicker and coating on the tip. My wife and I looked EVERYWHERE TWICE.

I finally gave up finding it. The other day I went out to move my tractor from the shed by my house down to the barn. Lying right there by my tractor...:ashamed:

I "lost" a set of keys one day. Looked every where over and over and over. Next day found it --- inside my coat lining! Had a hole in the pocket that didn't go all the way out. Was glad to find them, but felt silly at the time.

I had left my brand new JD 3520 out in the meadow as I was expecting the dealer's mechanic to replace a broken blade on the hedge-trimmer and my key was in my pocket. I was surprised and alarmed when I heard the engine crank and saw the hydraulic arm begin to swing in the distance. I ran there and found out the mechanic had finally arrived and was using his own key. It has been like that ever since. Different mechanics come and always use their own keys, never asking for mine. They tell me they will start any Deere and many other brands.

When I go to use the tractor, I always carry my vehicle and house keys as well as the tractor key. I always wear Carhart bib overalls or a jacket with a button or snap pocket closure and that's where the keys go...never a pants pocket.
With all my tractors, I've always bought 2 spare keys (they're pretty cheap), just in case... The primary tractor key (one I normally use) has a dayglo orange tag on it.

My Deere has a pair of bright orange key heads, have never lost one because I almost never take the key out. I wonder sometimes if we would have fewer tractor thefts if the keys for our machines had those electronic chips in the key themselves, as most cars do today. I have read that replacements for those keys with the chip can cost hundreds of dollars.

For me if the key isn't in the tractor it is on the hook by the back door. I always make sure I put it there before doing anything else. For truck keys they are always in the left pants pocket if they are not in the truck. By following this I have never lost a key ever. The 4 wheeler key and snowmobile keys are always in the machine since they are locked in a shop.

The key to my old JD-4410 TLB would start my little old Roper riding lawnmower as well as the big Link Belt excavator. Never tried it on anything else but it does seem like many equipment keys are universal.

If I lost the one to my JD-3520,..I guess I'd start by borrowing a key or two from the neighbour, (a large scale farmer with lots of JD stuff) in hopes one would get me running.

Actually I asked my dealer for the cost of a spare key. When he said 8 bucks, I decided against it. Good luck with finding your key Kyle.

CHEERS!
