Canadian Diesel to Contain 2% Bio-Fuel

What the feds want is to average 2% biofuel...so you're looking at probably 5% in your summer diesel and 0% in your winter diesel...though heating oil is going to be included in that averaging. They'll probably average like they do with the CAFE mileage figures for auto makers.

Whatever the case, make sure you store winter diesel rather then summer diesel. The summer stuff gels...so I found out.

The Manitoba government has required 20% biodiesel in summer blends. At that rate, we're probably averaging 8-9% annually.

We have the same crap here in Indiana. I was told my my Co-Op driver that delivers my fuel that it adds 2.5cents per gallon to add 1% of bio so on 2% you are paying 5cents extra.

Thin edge of the wedge....

Trying to be objective (for a paragraph at least), I need to go find out what the energy density of bioDzl is...... I'm hoping that this is not another "Pay more, for less mileage" deal, again.

Cheer up Chris, it could be worse, you could be north of the 49'th ! What adds 5 cents/gallon where you are, adds something like 8 cents/litre here, plus an infinitely expanding tax regime.

Unfortunately, the only real fix is walk, run, bicycle, or ride a horse ! D.

What next?
The bio fuel police for more cash grab?

Shure hope older tractors won't suffer, like bio eating up fuel lines or wearing out injectors.
Probably the purchases of boosters additives will way offset any economies made by bio conversion.

As to pollution, they could start by policing buses that spew noxious fumes at every street corner as they pull away from the curbs, but then I think those laws do not apply to municipalities just like our 'over 15 min idle law' does not apply to 'emergency vehicles'.
(All municipal vehicles are left running at Tim Hortons for the duration of the lunch hours.)

Hmmm.... a Nanny State government, with a Holier Than Thou Attitude.... yep, got one here in Ontario too. Global News did a great montage showing Enviro bills being read out inside Queens Park, overlaid with video of the Govt violating all the same regulations..... you could argue time, but I'd bet a year later, not much would be different.

Personally, I'm actually more green, than Nuke the Whales side of things... but if the govt actions started making actual sense to me, I'd immediately see professional counseling !

My personal favourite.... out in the Greater Vancouver area, they don't route public transit buses over many/most bridges. The reason - the traffic is too bad ! Good to see the officials out there are heavy users of BC's most famous export ! :confused2:

The best additive you could run in your diesel engine is having at least a 2% Bio diesel fuel...

You are 100% correct. Adding 2% for lubricity of the injector pump and governor is good. Anything over 2% is just wasting your money from the research I did back in about 2005.

So why is it crap?

Making fuel from food stock is crap for one. I know others will argue this but its my opinion. Second, it does not like cold weather. Third, older fuel systems do not tolerate it well. Ect.

It does have benefits like lubricity but from my research anything over 2% is not needed if you just want to add lubricity.
