Vintage farmer and his tractor

This was a wonderful thread. I spent my summers in high school working on a dairy farm down the road from my dad's hunting camp. A few years ago I was invited to a 90th birthday party for the farmer.

He was still in good health but was very stooped when he walked. I remember congratulating him on his 90 years and he said "Paul, if I knew I was going to live this long, I'd have taken a lot better care of myself when I was younger."

I told him that was very good advice, but I'm too old now for it to do me any good.

That's the amazing thing, Plowing and cultivating at 96!

This pic was just in July.

JB4310, sorry to hear of your loss. I'm sure old Oscar was thankful of your friendship. Great story.

Hi JB,

Been a while since I've read this thread... I'm sorry to hear about Oscar! :(

WOW!... He sure lived the ''good life'' doing what he wanted on his land!... That's another great picture of him on his tractor!

This was a great thread!... Thanks for sharing!

As a kid it was always fun listening to older people. Their stories were always exciting. When millard told a story of his childhood it was like listening to the radio and hearing Orsen Wells tell a story. To this day if there is an opportunity to speak to an older person the time is well spent.

Been a while since i read this. Sorry to hear he passed. Cant remember if you said he had kids or what. Im curious what will happen to his land, will the family sell it off or did he leave it in a trust so it wont turn into postage stamp lots?

John, I for one am glad you started this thread and looking back it was a long time ago? If you hadnt I would have never known Oscar and I feel a better man for that. Thank you. JD

Sorry I have not checked this thread in awhile, No he did not have any children, but does have 3 nephews from his sisters, since part of his property was the old family's farm I assume the nephews are already part owners and probably are in line to inherit the rest.

I'm gonna miss helping out at the farm, as broken down as it was, it was still a great escape from the suburban lifestyle surounding me and this area.
Go over there on a saturday, turn off the cell phone and since Oscar was not into current affairs it was really like stepping back into a simpler time.

JB.
