Several weeks ago I was asking about the milwaukee chop saw. I found out the home depot does not carry it in the store. They do carry the ridgid chop saw with the lifetime warranty. Has anyone bought the ridgid and do you like it for it's power. I really like the milwaukee but would have to mail order it. Northern tools carries it but as you know any trouble and I would probably have ship it back. What' your thoughts?

I'm not familiar with the Ridgid chop saw, but I have almost all Ridgid tools in my shop -- miter saw, table saw, band saw, jointer, drill/drivers, impact drivers, routers -- and have no complaints with any of them.

What few Rigid tools I have, (not the saw your interested in) are good quality. No complaints.

I'm happy with my 12" Rigid compound slider. It cut nearly everything stud/plate/header/LVL in my house, did all the miter work on the trim and has been used for a few other garage and deck construction projects. It has held up well and cut everything I've thrown at it.
Edit: I just realized there's a fair chance you're talking about a metal chop saw, in which case my experience is fairly useless

For what my 2 cents is worth. I own a picture framing shop. My saws probably make 50 to 70 cuts a day six days a week every week, wood and aluminum. I have three makita 1013s, the oldest is 25 years old and it's as good today as the first day I bought it. no bells and whistles just a motor and a blade but if I needed a new one tomorrow I would buy another in a minute.

If you are talking about a metal cutting saw, I have a Makita that is about 20 years old, I used it today. What else can I say? Bet it's worn out a few boxes of wheels (stones, blades) Good luck.

I have some Rigid stuff and Milwaukee and HF and others. I wouldn't hesitate getting a Ridgid tool. A good well known brand that should last as long as any of the others.
Don't be afraid to buy the Rigid. I was buying cheaper ones every year and a half, bought my first Rigid about 6 years ago for a shared shop w/ my father and it still going strong! I moved 2 years ago and bought another Rigid for my shop. I like the features of the Rigid; the vise angles both directions, quick adjust clamp, and heavy cast base.

If you mean for metal cutting, I bought one to build my house, which has a significant amount of galvanized C and H channel as part of the ProTec sip system. I've also used it cutting bolts, sch40 pipe and other heavier metal for various projects. I've worn out 3 cutting discs and tore one early on by letting a piece twist. I looked at the other brands but am totally pleased with my Rigid.

Fine Homebuilding has several reviews of wood cutting miter saw stands. HD was selling the Ryobi stand for something like $79.00 last year, and the reviews are actually pretty decent. I think it all depends on what you are looking to do with the stand and how much you are willing to spend.
I think Trojan still sells a pair of legs that attach to a 2x6 and then there's a piece that holds the saw to the 2x6. It might look crude by comparison to some of the more expensive stands, but a lot of people like it for its durability and portability.

If your handy with a welder, you can buy the Trojan legs and then make your own gizmo to hold the saw to a 2x6.
