Well I just got help in dealing with my uncles Case. Kinda hope someone can help me with the trusty ole Massey that my grandfather bought brand new in 66. He's (my uncle) had to keep bump starting it. He changed the starter before I could look at it. Now when I try to turn the key theres a pretty solid knock coming from just behind the battery. I see a soleniod there and was wondering if there is anything preventing it from getting full voltage (ie safeties) or am I well enough to condem the soleniod and just replace it??? Your time is much appreciated.

test it.. get a jump wire and setting in the seat jump the solenoid coil contact and see if that helps..

knock could be a bad flywheel ring gear jambing the starter gear too.

Ok I'll be going to test it shortly. If it didn't have a flat tire I'd bring it to the house and save some walking. I understand what you are saying about the fly wheel. But if it helps the knocking sounds like the soleniod resonating through the panel it is mounted to. But now that I have my electrical kit I can further test it. Thanks for your suggestion and I'll be back to you in a bit.

if it's a front and won't air up, jack that side up as high as it will go and then drive in a wood wedge into the axle stop on the OTHER side of the front bolster.. then slowly remove jack.. should keep the tire an inch or two off the ground.. if not.. strip the rim off...

poor mans trike.. :)

LOL. That one sounds interesting. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll keep it in mind. Don't think I'll have to use that one right now. We haven't quite got around to airing it up, but it's not a super priority at the moment. As per the no start I'm changing it over to a newer three pole soleniod, to which I see no reason why it won't work. I'll get the poor old beast started before we worry too much about the squishy tire. I'd also like to know if there is any way to identify said tractor. I'm being told there were a couple of different variations of 135's in that era. Just wanted to see if there were any differences in these tractors as Grandpa bought this one brand new and I would like to start returning it to its former glory.

Fer sure. I would never have thought of that one. If I get the chance today I might go try that one. I had to come back and reread your post in order to understand what you were sayin and couldn't help but laugh when I realized what you were saying. But really liking this site and the help y'all provide.

yep.. all you are doing is keeping the flat off the ground be preventing the axle from pivoting down on that side.. that's what the wedge in the axle stop does. similar to splitting the tractor for a clutch job.. except you use a wedge on each side to keep the engine from falling over ont he front axle pivot.. at least for a wide front anyway.. :)

Alrighty then. Its lives again (and without having to bump start it.) I got the tire filled up and got it started. When I got it down to the house I finished getting the new solenoid on and put the battery on a trickle charge. Now the little ole beast starts on its own all day long. I think the generator is charging a little light, but its still working. Now I do have another question for this machine. The PTO is full time engaged and I know thats not nice for the battery and starter. I have the feeling the PTO engage/disengage fork is bent inside. Does anyone know how big a job that is??? But thanks for the help so far guys, it's very much appreciated.

as long as it has no pto load on it.. the pto engaged isn't much of a big deal.

I'm not up on the 35/135 as to whether it is independednt pto or live pto.. if live.. just mashing the clutch kills the tranny anyway. if independent, then the hyds won't be pressureized to engage the pto at startup anyway, unless the pto clutch has waprped or piled up discs..e tc.

esy to test the gen with a volt meter onthe battery before and after start. can full field it too.
