Having just mentioned this on the "chain saw chaps" thread, I am curious how many would realize that a quick series of 3 shots from a firearm means help is needed. Is that common to most or would many just wonder what it is?

Yeah I read that and wondered about the same thing good question...
3 fast shots followed by 2 slow shots followed by 3 more fast shots might get some old timers attention or was that morse code? j/k
Honestly it would not for me I am always cautious about walking up on people when they are out shooting unless its at a shooting range.

I’ve always remembered that from hunter’s safety class, but I really don’t think many people think about it when they hear three shots. I know I don’t.

I have a city friend who got lost last Fall, and repeatedly tried the "3 shots" SOS. Thankfully we found him before he ran out of arrows.

Maybe it goes to show how old I am but I have intentionally fired a fourth shot a few times in my life when I did have to fire three quick ones when hunting upland game. Never shot three times quick when big game hunting but it has been in the back of my mind when shooting in the remote outdoors since I was taught that back in the early 60's by my father when I was learning to hunt/shoot.

When I hear 3 quick shots, I think missed deer.
Not sure about other states, but here, guns have to be limited to 3 for deer hunting. And it is not uncommon to hear that during gun season.
1 shot = dead deer
2 shots= maybe??
3shots = deer still running:laughing:

I knew about the three shot SOS, but you got me thinking. Around here we are also limited to three rounds. Three shot volleys are quite common and I never give them second thought.
