Good work Don. Just didn't know what to say when Jim told me you had a heart attack.
Hope your recovery continues as well as it has this far.
Want to be seeing you next year as we have in previous years.

The running group thinks I'm running faster now and was wondering if they need to get one of those stent thingys.:D

This sounds like a conversation I had with a bud from back in the day in a land far far away. He's my age and told me he just had rotator cup surgery. He expected to pick up twenty yards with his driver when he recovered.

I told him both of mine had been messed up for years. But if he could pick up twenty yards with the repair of one I was going to see if they thought me getting both of mine repaired would give me forty yards!

That would be worth it. Nothing else seems to work.......

btw Don, I think it is wonderful how you are doing.

Don, can you eat fruit? I'm guessing bananas are off the list. And how long must you remain on this diet?

It is great news to hear of your progress. I have been praying for you and Karen.

The hospital will soon be introducing a Diet, that is similar to mine, first to their employees, and then to the patients, and then as prevention to the general public. They have actually geared up for it by sending employees to get trained and have the info/video/books...etc... to start soon.

The diet I'm following is for heart patients (or those who never want heart disease) and the diet allows for no moderation! I do it completely or continue to build up plaque in the arteries of my heart. So with that said: How long should I stay on it? It is a lifestyle change. Basically the same conclusion was made by Bill Clinton and his doctors (and he probably has some of the best) about his heart disease.

So far all the results have been positive, I have recovered quickly, lots of energy, never hungry, feel good, lost another 7 pounds, running up to 4 miles 8 weeks after my heart attack, and best of all, a significant reduction in my cholesterol.

Quick summary of foods allowed:
All vegetables - for those with heart disease no avocados
Legumes - Beans, peas, lentils etc...
Whole grains - includes whole grain pastas, made without eggs.
Fruits- limit to three pieces (or handfulls) a day.
Beverages - oat milk, no-fat soy milk, alcohol in moderation, coffee, tea, seltzer water.

Foods to avoid:
All animal products including fish
All dairy products
Oils including virgin olive and canola oil
nuts - those without heart disease can have walnuts.

I hope you are one of the lucky ones (like my brother) who can eat anything and not develop plaque in your arteries, if not there's the diet.

Don, Can you point me to more information on your diet. I had a little chest pain and ended up in the hospital. They found a little blockage but not enough to do anything about. They said low fat, low salt, no caffeine, take a bunch of pills. But I haven't been able to really nail the diet down. Some times I think Doctors are like mechanics. When it breaks we will fix it.

Chris, the must read book with 150 recipes:
"Prevent and reversing Heart Disease" by Caldwell B Esselstyn, Jr., M.D.
It goes into detail about the disease and and the diet and shows actual pictures of how the plaque goes through reversal. It also shows how the plaque ruptures and causes a blood clot which causes a heart attack like I had. This is the book behind Bill Clinton's life saving diet.

a brief description of the CHIP program the hospital will be starting is here:
Coronary Health Improvement Project | CHIP Health
This program has a lot of info. I saw the trainers training packet when I was doing cardio-rehab and it had many CDs and Books.

Two other good books:
The Engine 2 Diet by Rip Esselstyn and any book by Dean Ornish M.D.

This week all over the U.S. a movie is opening with these authors and the diet required to reverse the disease is playing in limited theaters. The name of the movie is "Forks over Knives". I will be seeing it this weekend!

I'm doing my best not to be a repeat customer for the hospital. The plant based diet is not that hard to follow, but for some reason many people cannot make the changes needed. You like me, have an extra incentive: confirmed heart disease.
(By the way 1 heart attack with 2 days in the hospital = $60,000.00)

There are studies that show that the American Heart Assoc. Diet does not stop heart disease or prevent heart attacks. I can attest to that.

Be very careful when you do things that cause your heart rate to increase close to you maximum, that is when you are the most vulnerable. Stay hydrated!
Good Luck, let me know if you can do the diet.

Maybe we can start a TBN coronary support group.

Bird, at least they are honest. I like that they give you a hospital gown going in and wheel you out in a wheel chair. I hope the gown back closes or it could ruin some appetites. There seems to be nothing held back on the sides with an unfiltered Lucky Strike and butter in the milkshake and lard cooked fries.

I got to forward this to the cardiac re-hab gym. :D

Too bad all his spokes people keep dying on him.:(

Don, besides the news stories, you might want to show them the Heart Attach Grill's own website.
