CamSuperline Trailer reviews

Only thing I do not like about my Uncles 14K Bri-Mar dump is the powder coat paint. I prefer regular paint. It seems to me that the powdercoat gets a chip then rust forms and it comes off in sheets. With regular paint like me and my other uncle have on our car haulers we each just carry a rattle can of Rustolem black gloss in the tool box and touch it up as needed.

You could do the same with powder coat but its thick and it leaves a lip for it to start to lift all over again.

That's true about any powder coat job, looks great until it starts peeling, then it could get real ugly. I wouldn't let that be a deal breaker, but it may be something you have to deal with.

That's just cosmetics, it's a trailer after all. My PJ GN was powder and not too big a deal. More looking for operational issues.

As the trailer saga continues the game keeps changing. I did find a few nice Bri Mars but not close enough to justify the diesel for pickup. I would be within a few hundred of new with the fuel. I found a 18' 10k cam trailer but the owner can't sell it until he sells his mini ex. I was looking to make a move today or tomorrow so I'm a bewildered. I also found a 20' 10k superior trailer real close bit it' got a dovetail and they guy want's a bit more for it. I'm not sure on the dovetail since it's kind of a waste of space. The paint on both is in good shape and they both have new tires. So should I wait or jump on the superior? I hate difficult decisions. Both trailers are tagged 10k but both have 12k axles.

My experience on used trailers is there are very few deals out there. I always plan on a bearing job, break job, new tires, and usually new lights and wiring. This alone is $700 figuring $400 for tires, $100 for bearings and parts, and $100 per axle for breaks putting on new pad/shoes and having the disc/drums turned. A new wood deck is $300 also if needed.

9 times out of 10 you can buy new cheaper in the long run.

Try Troy's Trailers in Farmington CT. He buys trailers by the semi load and has very competitive pricing for the New England area.

Yeah, that's the place I was referring to that changed to Cam from Brimar.

I never bought anything from them, but they are very well stocked and fairly friendly, let you poke around like a kid in a candy store.

The issue of 5 or 6 ton has me wondering, I've heard about derating them for registration purposes. registering a 12,000# as 9900 to stay under that 10K threshold. Can anyone do that? I guess it's state sensitive, but if it's that easy I would go with the 6 ton. So at least if you go over the 10K you know you are not overloading the trailer, might still get a ticket, but not a safety risk.

I have several freinds that have Camsuperline's and they have no problems to speak of. Here in Pa. they seem to have gotten real popular in the last 5 years. Still sounds like if that used Cam is around yet might be worth another look.

The power tilt gn cam is still in limbo. I looked at it on Mothers day and the seller said he had one guy interested but he hadn't commited to buying. Being a Sunday I wasn't able to give him cash to buy it. I told him I was very interested and asked him what he has to get for it. He said he wanted $3500
I explained that I'd need to order the gn hitch and install it so I wouldn't be able to pick it up for a week or two. He said that was fine, A few days past while I was looking for the hitch, I called him and asked if I could come take another look. At this point I had the cash for it. I got there and talked with him abit about the trailer. Then I offered him $3200 for it, he got all insulted and say no. I said that was fine and I'd give him the $3500 he wanted but I'd still need to get the hitch so it would stay there until I got it in. Then he tells me that the original guy interested is first inline and he would call him to see if he still wanted it. I explained that I had cash in hand for the trailer then and there. He then says that the other guy is giving him $3750 for it. I chuckle and say well you told me you'd take $3500 so that's what I'm offering. Then he said he'd contact the other guy the next day and get back to me. Well the day goes by and no call, so I call him and says the other guy is taking it for more than I offered. I thanked him and hung up. Now I really wanted the trailer and don't feel I lowballed him in anyway. I had cash so I obviously was serious. I almost called him back from another number and asked if the trailer was still forsale. The odd part was he told me a few other's looked at it and offered only 3k for it.

I found another 10k 18' cam, it looks like I'll end up with it. I wish I had just given him the $3500 without offering lower since that's where everything went sideways. Although I don't feel like my offer was insulting in anyway. What do you guys think? The guy did tell me his real job is a salesman so that may explain this shady behavior.
