I was able to get some wheels and axel from Ken Sweet-- Thanks Ken-- I worked on it for a few days and just have to paint it now. I was able to make a 5ft with a 3pt hitch for me.. and a 4ft pull type to sell. Hopefully I can offset my cost selling the 4ft pull one... Only thing I did different was I added a thin center support to the 3pt hitch one. I have about a mile to go thru the woods to get to our food plots and was afraid that the bouncing would sag the axel so I put in a support... Pics below...

Very nice fab work Andy. I've been wanting to make one of these myself, I never see any used ones for sale. But just no time. Still working on refurbing my plow. Looks like you already had the wheels so suppose that keeps the cost down. Good luck with it and let us know how it works for you.

You are welcome. 2 Great pieces. Some nice welding too. Looks quick hitch compatible? Ken Sweet

Looks great! I just bought some rollers from Ken also so I am trying to find the time to do mine. One question however. I like the ability of a 3 point hitch style that makes transporting it or trailering it easier. But I wonder if the tow behind style follows the ground contour better and is more effective?

Since you have two identical ones with the two styles, why don't you do a test and see if one is better than the other in terms of soil contact and effectiveness??? What is your opinion of this? Does the 3 pt. one tend to lift up as ground contour changes?

Your fabrication looks great! Wish I had your skills. What welder did you use?

Looks great and in my experience the pull behind is better than the 3 point but kinda hard to carry around.

The ones I rehab have both 3 point and pull type

HC- I have not used either of them in fresh tilled dirt yet but played around with both and it does seem that the pull behind might roll over unlevel ground a little better- BUT it is not near as heavy as the 3pt hitch one. If new ground is unlevel I drag it first to get as level as possible and then c-pack it. The weight-- I feel is the most important thing on the packer. It will break all dirt clods up and press the seed in firmly. So with a pull behind weighing 300-400 lbs its hard to get it anywhere, so I perferr the 3pt on and it weights in at 600-700 lbs... The welder I am using is a Miller matic 210 (mig).. Love it..

thanks. I am thinking about making one that can be pulled, but with an optional 3 pt hookup for transporting it. Some of our food plots are far apart and even require travel down roads, so having the option of lifting it seems a good idea. I have a Miller 211, so hopefully mine will turn out as nice as yours! Where did you get your bearings?

bought them in town at Memphis bearing for about $22 for the pillow bearings and around $28 for the four bolt flange bearings-for the 3pt c-packer... I have about $500 in both the 3pt packer and 4ft pull one..

Finished!!! got some paint on both of them this week.. I really like the rustoleum professional paint. Even though I put it on with a brush it really is good strong paint.. Just dont have an orange in that brand..
