I bought a new dual axle lanscape trailer from Appalacian Trailer last July. The trailer has less than 2,000 miles on it and the right rear tire is bald. The other three tires are worn more than I think they should be, but still have about half the tread that the unused spare has. The date codes are all from early 2007 and the trailer is a 2010. The trailer is rated for 7,000 lbs. and weighs about 2,000 lbs. I only load it with my BX25 which is about 3,000 and usually without the BH and the FEL. Total weight is around 5,000 lbs. and 3,700 lbs. without the BH and FEL. so I know it's not overloaded. The tires are 225/75D-15 load range C.

I called the trailer manufacturer and told them that I thought the right rear wheel was out of alignment and they referred me to the tire distributer. The tire distributer asked me what brand of tires I had and I told them "MILEST" they said there is no such brand and I should call the trailer manufacturer.

After further examination, I saw that two letters were ground off of all five tires. The name should have read "MILESTAR".

I called Appalacian Trailer again and spoke with the production manager. He took all of my information and said that he will call me back tomorrow with a solution.

My question is, why do you think they would grind off the last two letters of the manufacturers name? It seems an angle grinder might have been used due to the curviture of the scratch marks.

Thanks in advance. :)

Do a google on milestar ST tires.

Probably one reason the letters were ground/cut off was these tires may have have had a recall some years back. Looks like the trailer manufacture has installed recalled tires which they can do as ST tires aren't a passenger carrying tire. Certainly unethical if thats what went down. Many P and LT tires were recalled.

You should be running trailer tires at max sidewall pressures.

Hey folks,

I had noticed a small crack on the sidewall on 1 of my Milestar M-108 tires and contacted them a couple of weeks ago to see if they were on the recall list. They replied that they were not, but if I sent pics of the tire(s) in question they would determine if they'd send replacement(s). I've had the trailer for a little over a year and am wondering if the single crack is a sign of things to come (read a few posts here on the subject)?

Well, today I received and email from them with the following:

"Our Office can offer you with NO Charge Replacement Tires, to replace out the tires you are experiencing problems with. The tires would arrive to you within 3-5 business days..."

i've seen many tractor tire dealers do that.

sell seconds or blems, and grind the tire name off.

Sure wish Taskmaster would have stood behind their tires like that. I bought a 2008 Gatormade in January 2009 new. Last spring I noticed severe weather cracking in the tires. I called Gatormade and they agreed they shouldn't be doing it. Gatormade and I both contacted Taskmaster, but Taskmaster refused to do anything about it saying the tires are only good for 1 year and since they were made in July of 2008, they wouldn't do anything about them. I haven't replaced them yet, but the cracking is getting bad enough, that I'm going to have to do it real soon.

Makes me wonder how we could build superior products like tires in American Plants 50 years ago and now there is so much junk out there.

Has nothing to do where they are made, its what they are made of. The EPA makes us take all the good stuff out of tires, paint, fuel, ect.

I had this happen on a Tennessee Trailer. Turned out to be the U-Bolts were loose on the leaf-springs. When empty everything was tight because of the arch of the springs. When loaded the bolts were so loose I removed 14 of the 16 nuts with my bear hands.

Load your trailer down then tighten everything up. Go over each nut and bolt on the trailer. Mine ate tires just like yours did till I found out what was going on. Ate up 2 sets of tires in the mean time.

The issue is trailer manufactures have no quality control. Using a impact wrench to put them together is RED-NECK. Its fine to snug them up but you need quality control where a torque wrench is employed to assure everything is at spec. Heck, using a impact wrench it could be going south and say on day its set at 100 FT LB and the next day its at 65 FT LB and the following 30 FT LB before they realize the problem. In the mean time trailers have been shipped.

Sometimes they put used tires on them to save you money or them. I bought my 7000lb carhauler with used tires on it. I knew it and told them that was fine. If i wanted i could have had new ones put on for another $200. I figured they would be dry rotted by the time they wore out. I just run used tires on it. For the 500 or less miles i put on a year i cant tell the tread even is wearing. Now that i have said that i will go to the closet and get out my asbestos suit.

I know im not the only one who does this let alone runs car tires on any kind of trailer with no problem. But im not towing 5000lbs of tools and bobcats everyday for a business either.

I did the same thing. Got my trailer with used tires and they lasted 7 years. Spent the dime and got 4 brand new Goodyear Marathons in load range C put on and had 2 fail in about a year, go figure. Then bought 4 brand new Greenball Towmasters in 2007 with out a single issue.
