The rubber hose that runs to the pump on our JD is collapsing when it is running. I have changed the filter, hose, cleaned the suck-up screen and put fresh hydraulic oil in, what else can I do.. All the functions do work, just considerably slower than they should.
Thank You !!

If that hose is coming from the tank to the pump, then it is a suction hose and needs replacing. If you starve the pump long enough, some damage can occur. A new suction hose should not cost that much. A wire insert might help. If that hose is a new hose, was it designed for suction, or just plain hose?

If that is a new stiff hose, then you have a blockage somewhere, filter, inside tank obstruction, etc.

You can try blowing air back through the suction tube, but might get messy.

You could do a test of the pump by removing the suction hose, and block off the tank opening, and using a new hose, suck fluid from the container, and dump the pump output flow back into the container.

jmurtap,

The suction hose should not collapse in any circumstances......You need to replace it with the proper suction hose....

Suction hose will have a "slinky" wire molded into the core of the hose....make sure it is not a regular hyd hose used for pressure cuz the liner is wrapped with wire braid on the outside of the inner liner......allowing it to collapse during vacuum....

I agree with the other posts. One more thing to to check is the vent. If the vent is pluged it can cause the hose to collapse.

This hose doesn't have a wire inside of it, but it is a molded 3 port hose

Where would the vent be at?
Thank You !!

The fill cap may have a small hole somewhere. Top, side or thread area.

There has to be a vent, as the fluid expands and contracts caused by temp differential.

So true. Change your suction hose with the proper hose. I personally saw a John Deere excavator blow a $7,000 pump because they were sold 1 wire hose for suction hose. Give Ken a ring over at DHH or visit a reputable hose shop.

I purchased hose directly from John Deer, it's very odd hose, no way its the wrong hose.

Is it possible there should be an internal spring-wire inside the hose..??

I couldn't see the JD link.....

When you changed out the hose, did a lot of fluid come out?

No not very much, 1/4 of a quart maybe

I see where you're going with this JJ....maybe a restriction in the tubing and/or fittings to the reservoir..??.....It's gotta be somewhere between the hose/ reservoir/suction screen..........

make sure the suction tubing hasn't been hit/squashed...

It looks in good shape I'll pull it off and check for a blockage.
Thanks Guys !!!!

Is the title for this thread [ the return hose ]correct , or should it have been suction hose.
