You never knew where things were goign with this as we used it to knock back trees that were growing out to the road. It could handle about anything thrown at it as longs as we could keep it running. It just wasn't designed to be set up this way.

I am also posting the info so others understand there isn't just a simple answer of walking the area, switch to flails, etc. There is alot of different scenarios that change every few feet of road.

Nice boom mower, mooseracing. All the boom mowers I've seen are set up on the right side of the tractor. What kind of reach do you have?

On the drive to work, today and yesterday, there were two tractor's mowing I40. They were running cheap rotary cutters that you could by at TSC or the local farm store. The mowers I have seen on I40 in the past used flails or JD MX cutters. I wonder if how long those cheap cutters are going to last.

The tractors where open stations and I do not think they had a canopy. My tractor does not have a canopy but I ain't running it 8-10 hours a day all week long in the hot sun.

I was really surprised to see rotary cutters on I40. I guess they were the cheaper bid. With all of the carnage on this section of I40, what is a few more accidents.

Last Thursday we had two bad accidents with semi trailers. One in the morning and another in the afternoon. Multiple vehicle accidents. The first killed one semi driver. I think the fire got him since the truck burned. In the second accident, three people where killed, with one burned to death. The semi driver was DWI on drugs. He hit an F250. Both the semi and F250 were close in color and it was hard to tell the two apart. Not much left of the F250.

The area has had a huge number of vehicle deaths over the last few weeks. Seems like every couple of days there is another multiple fatality accidents.

Hopefully the mowers do not add to the carnage.

Later,
Dan

I have never thrown a tire out and I have hit a lot, man what a racket and a whole lot of shaking; never hit a paper box. Maybe my machines are not big enough to throw one out.

When I was growing up, whenever working "new ground" we hit roots for years and a trip plow sure would have been nice and cut down on the bruising.

Were you plowing behind a team of mules, or was it oxen?:laughing:

I know a few people who do ROW mowing for a living and none of them actually operate a tractor on the side of these dangerous roads. They set up the work (win contracts) and get it done as cheap as possible.

The mowing company on I40 might be ran the same ways as all the others. I'm sure he either subs out the work or buys the cheapest setup (tractor-bushhog) he can and pays the operator $10 a hour.
