Comparison Mahindra Vs Deere - resale concerns?

I have to disagree that resale is not a big concern.

Even if you are planning on keeping the tractor forever, plans change and life circumstances change.

Unfortunately, it is usually a negative change which causes one to downsize and can force the sale of a tractor. This is exactly the time when you are going to need the money the most.

Don't overweight resale value, but think about it.

Just different ways of living life. If you are always thinking that the worst may happen, and you prepare for it, then yes you are prepared. But by always looking out for the worst to happen, you pass up many opportunities. I know of this first hand from my parents and from opportunities that I have missed out on because of how I was raised and did not feel that I should take the chance.

Again, just my :2cents:

I vote Deere. I had the same decision 4 years ago when I purchased my Branson. Saved about 7 grand and have been very happy with tractor performance but now my dealer no longer sells Branson and closest dealer is 2 hours away. Thinking about trading up in a year or two. Dealer support and parts availability is key.

Fair enough. At the end of the day what I care about is value. I've had my Kubota L3600 for about 10 years. Gonna keep it for the backhoe, since I figure it will cost me more for a new backhoe then I'll get in resale. I'll keep it 'til I kill it.

Mahindra 5530 vs. JD 5055e seems to me to be more of an apples to apples comparison. What has me baffled is the price difference between the 5035 and the 5530 vs JD 5055e and 4320.

9F/3R vs 12F/12R ... is it an issue of quality or just more gears? Sorry to ask what is most likely a stupid question but I am mechanics is not one of my strong suits.

The other thing I noticed is the hydraulic output of the Deere 5055e is significantly higher then the Mahindra 5035 (18.2 GPM vs 11 GPM). Isn't that a significant factor as well?

Like I said I have been leaning towards the Mahindra, but the more I learn the more I wonder. I appreciate all the feedback and the education that comes with it. :)

Gears may not sound like a big deal, but the more you have the easier it is to get engine RPM-ground speed just how you want-need it. I have 2 Mahindra's, a 3215 HST and a 7520 4x4. The 7520 has 12F/12R syncro trans. While this has worked for me, I think that a 16F/16R trans would have been nicer, but they do not offer that and I never thought that I would need more than 12 gears. After having the 12F/12R tranny, I cannot imagine having to contend with fewer gears. It seems to me that it would be very difficult to get everything just right. There is a much bigger gap between gears and believe it or not, it is nicer to have all those gears in reverse also.

The 5035 has 5 GPM for the steering and 11 for the remotes. the JD 5055E has 6.8 for the steering and 11.4 for the remotes. So yes there is a difference, but it is not 11 vs 18. the JD 4320 is 5.1 and 12. So yes JD has the hydraulic advantage.;)

wbuoni,

You can try to look forward to the what if's, especially resale, but do you or anyone have that control of what a resale value will be at that future time. No one can just to many variables.

It comes down to these three simple things to make a decision. They are:

1. Do you need the tractor - Yes or No.
2. Do you like the tractor - Yes or No.
3. Can you afford the tractor - Yes or No.

When all three are yes than you have found what your looking for. We all can offer opinions, facts, comparisons. but it still comes down to the three simple items as listed above.

I enjoy my Mahindra tractor. It represented the best performance/price compared to other brands when I purchased it. Dealer support was not a major factor in my decision and as it turned out, dealer support turned out to be marginal at best anyway. Trade in value was not a factor. I don't plan on trading in or selling my tractor anytime soon. Now my daughter needed a tractor to bush hog her 20 acres of flat pasture and she went with a Deere 5055D mostly because of the name, partly because of the price and partly because of trade in value. In 2 years she has already upgraded her JD gator and her JD zero turn mower. We're both happy with our tractor choices.:D

i have both a mahrindra and a deere.they are both about 10 years old.the mahrindra has almost 800 hrs and the deere has 3500 hrs on it .i have had to weld a bunch of parts on the mahrindra and none on the deere.if you have the same luck i have with my mahrindra i would get a welder and learn to weld.i am eventually going to replace it with a deere or mccormick.
