TODAYS SEAT TIME

Finished installing new transmission cooling fan on the BX 23, yesterday. Much easier than what the manual suggests. However, I did not use their suggested method. Did not have time for test run before going to a local fair. Have some mowing to do later today.

I've found that running from wasps/hornets gets me more stings than standing still. But then I am not allergic and can stand one or two while destroying a nest.

So I spent anhour and a half finishing up the mowing on my JD LX266. I mowed the driveway and the soon to be temporary pasture area up by the gate.

Then I jumped in the DK50 and practiced with the grapple. I picked up a big pine stump/root ball and dropped it a few times knocking dirt off. irregular shapes are harder to grapple.

Then I went to the neighbors and moved 6-8 big downed cedars the loggers de-limbed and left for him. The mulcher is coming to his place later this week and he wanted the cedars saved. I picked them up a a few groups and then organized them all into one pile I could pick them ALL up and lay on the edge of his field. I am starting to get a little smoother.

Now I'm loading up the JD ad the puch mower and headed to one of my rentals to mow.

Then I'm cooking carne asada Mexican salad & taco bar for dinner tonight (YUM) It's gonna be raining so I can cook mostly indoors...

Be well & happy tractoring to all!

David

Plan is to bust the bigger rocks down and use them in the driveway.

One of my projects is to prepare an area to move the shed shown in the first two photos. I want to get it out of my driveway/parking area so that I will have more room for snow removal.

Earlier this weekend, I removed most of the stumps and rocks. The shed will be turned about 90 degrees and back into the area shown in the second photo. There was a big rock (shown in 3rd photo) that was not really in the way of the shed, but would have been in the way of the future tractor road that I plan to put behind it. This rock is too big to carry away with the loader, so I decided to dig a grave for it, and bury it deeper!

In the 4th photo, I have the grave just about dug. In the 5th photo, the boulder is in its grave. The rock was big enough that I had a hard time to place it where I wanted it. If I had gotten around to the other side, maybe I could have pulled it to a little deeper part of the hole. However, I decided that this was deep enough.

I got rained out, about a third of my way through backfilling. I'll leave that for another session.

Mowed about 700 yards of fire-break/shooting lane. It equals roughly just under three acres. I'm thinking of using much of it as a hay field in the future, as the grass looks good and thick. I figured if I keep it mowed periodically, the grass should overtake the weeds quite handily. Also, since It will more than likely just be for feeding goats and donkeys, it doesn't have to be the highest quality hay, so this should be just about perfect.

Cut some fast growing white birch and red maple that were encroaching on my wild apple trees like this one. They lean for the light over the apple trees. I used the winch to pull the larger ones back the other way.
It is a really good apple year here this year.

Seat time. My seat's vinyl cover is all cracked up and the foam padding has deteriorated. I have been looking locally for a seat cover but have not found one. Meanwhile my wife reminded me that I had cut off and saved the leather from an old chair we discarded. She took some of that leather and made a seat cover for me. It is a bit crooked but very cushy. I tried it out by brush hogging a couple of acres this afternoon. Nice!
