Tractor News New Holland going out of business???

Where was/is that plant located in Louisville? What's it being used for today? Did Ford take it over for their truck operation?

I ask because I don't ever remember driving by it or hearing my Dad or uncles ever mention it and they were all big IH fans.

Gone and ALMOST forgotten.....The foundry was demoed to make room for expansion of Louisville International Airport UPS has their main air hub there. But EXACTLY where IH WAS, is now a FED EX air freight hub.......A big flat concrete parking lot......

Ford truck plant is east of Louisville, on the outskirts. Ih was almost smack in th emiddle of what is now Louisville. Ford car plant,(former Explorer plant) old but being refurbished now, is a stones throw from the old IH plant location.

As I said earlier, the above words belong to someone who's never owned a combine, bought a combine, sold a combine, traded for a combine, and I'm fairly certain has never even rode IN a combine....And is ate up GREEN with jealousy!!!!!

Thanks for the info. It was the former Explorer plant off Fern Valley that I was thinking of. I forgot about the one out near Gene Snyder that makes truck parts. I was thinking they still made trucks at Fern Valley.

I am not up to speed on the quality of combines these days.....BUT......Claas was building combines for Ford waaay back in the 70's. IIRC we offered 3 models of Claas / rebadged into Ford combines back then.

They were pretty good machines back then. But Gleaner, IH, Case & JD sold far more machines in our market.

MF were re painting claas in the 90's too but never seemed to take off here . I would certainly look at a cat lexion as a newer model used combine as they are cheaper to buy used than other brands. I think if you bought one in claas colours with a merc engine you'd be married to it but yellow ones are probably #3 in what you see in fieds here ..#1 caseIH..#2 deere...#3 Cat lexion , We are seeing a lot of deere and case guys going to CAT this year . No denying that a lexion is argueably as good a combine as you can get but untill claas get their feet in north america i would'nt want a new one ..!

I cannot understand why people knock fiat...Granted the earlier tractors suffered from rust in the tin work and the cabs lacked creature comforts but engines and trannies were as good as any . NH combines have always used iveco engines in one model or another ..even the new CaseIH quadtack 600 has an iveco engine.
All the fiat tractors weve had from the 5 cyl 90/90....through 100/90..110/90 to the 180/90 powershift that i would put up there with any tractor of any colour have been fantastic !

NH (Fiat) is constantly re-aligning dealers and manufacturers of its product line up. Just recently, NH severed ties with Japan in the compacts market and now has a deal with Korea for the compacts market. I am not a big fan of the new compacts as it appears NH has sold out just to stay in the game. A new sub compact is being released fourth quarter with available units in first quarter 2012. We have lost our class four compacts and our factory cab options. A positive is the new 5 year warranty which I believe NH created to secure more of this compact business. NH is in no way out of the business. They continue to invest millions in new tier four products and state of the art machinery. I do think they will throttle back on the compact business and perhaps get out of it all together in several years. We are just not a player in these markets as Kubota is such a dominate player, understandably so. Im fortunate to work for a dealer that sells several majors, NH, Kubota, & Case. We dont sell any of the third party brands, yet! Its all about survival and more importantly, what the customer is willing to, and can afford, to spend and how comfortable they are with their dealer. Some will pay more just for the extra service.

Rick, These are valid points. I recently lost my job in Feb because I was working for a dealership that only sold NH. Business was just not there. I have over 20 years in the business and was fortunate to go to work for another local dealer. This dealer is much bigger and carries more than NH. Most of the majors are out sourcing their CUTs with the exception of Kubota who has the formula right and continue to gain market share. I work with the reps of all the lines and its nice to get an inside look into how things are done with the "competition". In Europe, NH is like JD or CAT here in the states. They will never get to that level here if they keep selling out. Fiat has made some questionable moves since the buy out, most of which I cringe at with each news release. I love NH as it is in my blood for years now. I just hope they get some leadership that will better serve the dealer, and the buyer.
