Lets see, 260,000 miles, chip, and big hitch. Run, dont walk. This truck has been used and used hard. Trust me, I have 2 of them just like that.:D I run the crap out of them. Good thing is they are Fords and are as tough as they come. Difference is I have owned them since day one and put all the aftermarket stuff on myself. I know how its been maintained and used. Buying used like this, no way.

The Ford Severe Duty Intake (AIS) is the best intake kit you can get in terms of filtering performance, and it flows better than the standard filter as well. You can tell the difference by looking- a standard factory filter will cover the driver's side battery with part of the plastic housing, and be a flat, rectangular filter. The Severe Duty intake will have the driver's side battery exposed, and be an oval shaped filter.

I have the Ford AIS on my truck. I installed it and it was actually fairly cheap. Another reason that this system is superior to other aftermarket systems is that it is quiet in the cab. Not as much drone.

Always get the F350 SRW over the F250. Higher stickered ratings for almost double the legal cargo capacity.

260,000 miles in 11 years. That truck was well used and is nearing the end of its service life. Trucks with higher mileage are very much the exception.

Thanks for the replies. Appreciate talking me down off the ledge. But i had already decided to hold off. when i asked about the Diablo chip, the son explained that it made the tranny shift hard, but that was normal. At least he was honest.

I'll keep fishing around. Another one I found, was a 2000 that was advertised with 168,000 miles on it. they kept putting off faxing a copy of the title, had excuses. But i did get the VIN. Run it thru carfax and it showed issued title back in '07. Mileage on the title in '07? 171,499. Too funny.

I may buy an old beater till we head south for April vaca, and do some face to face shopping. Might head for Tennesse.

But if any of you guys happen top stumble across something, let me know. Basically looking for 2000ish PSD's or Duramax of that rough era. I only put on 15,000 miles a yr so an older one would last a while. Just looking for something thats not a northern rustbucket. 6 months of winter salt is rough on stuff up here.

my 04 f250 has some upgraded air cleaner.. uses a 9490 napa element.. a retangular deal longer than a shoe box, but otherwise about the same dimensions as a shoe box. All our f250 at work were converted over to that. we heard it was superior to the OEM setup.

my f450 with 7.3 also has ( not the same one ) an upgraded cleaner. My 350/7.3 is stock though..

patience will pay off.

when I knew my dodge 1/2ton was going, I started looking for a good replacement vehicle. I looked for about a year almost.. at first casually.. then a lil more involved the last 2 months. I needed more than a 1/2 ton as I was doing more stuff ont he farm at the limits of my .5t wanted the axle capability of a DRW.. liked ford.. eeded a dialy driver.. so didn't want a 4.88 rear like my f450.. needed 4x4 as there are dirt roads to my farm.. finally found a 99 f350 drw 4x4 for a good price. it needed minor attention.. some window motors and door lock solenoids.. has a non critical trans fluid drip.. other than that it's a good work truck starts good, and gets down the road. as a side benefit it had a nice flip over GN ball in it :) so I can pull my GN if needed. I bet you I looked at 15 of them and missed a few better ones by minutes on the phone.. but patience paid off.

i sold my 1/2 ton dodge, it was nickel and diming me to death.

Thanks for the input everyone.

kinda like buying a tractor.

learn to read between the lines.

'needs clutch adjustment' means, clutch IS already slipping, likely worn out.

etc..

I put 8,000+ miles a month on a diesel truck, can't imagine why they would put a substandard air filter. no quicker way to eat the motor.
