5' or 6' Rotary Cutter

5' without hesitation. Run a 6' behind my JD 5303 and it will bog in thick bahia. Have to slow down in the really thick spots.

same width with a couple inchs more than your tires. is what i have always read here on the forum. *shrugs*

if it cut same width or a little larger than your tractor tires (5 foot) i would more likely go for it.

double check gear box oil, and wear on holes / pins for the 2 blades.
double check nuts / bolts that connect the 3pt hitch to the deck itself.
double check rear wheel/s to make sure they spin. and do not wobble.
see how much crud is wrapped around the spindle under the deck. that comes down from the gear box on top.
check for "dents" in the blades. to see how many rocks/stumps/large tree limbs it might of hit. and possibly done damage.
double check slip clutch.
pull off or push the PTO shaft covers away. and make sure shaft is not twisted or bent. and that the shaft has been greased.
check "greese zerts" for being greased, in locations of possible bearing locations (wheel/s)
check PTO shaft length. you may need to buy a new PTO shaft longer than what is attached to it.

I have a JD 3720 which is your tractor with a few more HP and have been running a LX6 for the last three years mowing about 8-acres without an issue. If you a consistently cutting small trees I would be concerned about the light weight RC otherwise 6-foot makes it much easier to cut close to a fence line and will work fine on your tractor. My thoughts are the 3xxx series tractors will run a heavy duty 5' or a light/medium duty 6' RC all day long. Good Luck with your decision, you have HP to spare for the six footer according to OEM specifications:
RC1072
Standard duty
6 ft
(1.8 m)
Lift
25 hp
(18.6 kW)

Wow, thats lower than I mow my grass with my ZTR. If the weeds were 2-2.5 inches when you bushhogged it, how short were they after:confused::D

J/k

To the OP. Your tractor, like mine, is right on the bubble between the 5' and the 6' cutters. And for what you describe, I'd go with the 5.

I have both. The 5'er is nice for tight areas, and It is light enough (~600lbs) that I can take the FEL off when doing trails in the woods.

The 6' does require a lower ground speed and is much heavier and I MUST leave the loader on. But it is nice for large open areas.

So if you dont have a huge field to maintain, stick with the 5'er and you wont look back.

I meant 2- 2 1/2 feet. OOOps

that 1060 is a good cutter, I ran one behind my 28 hp, w/ 24.5 pto hp, and it made a real nice cut. I would have replaced it when I up graded tractors but, went with the american made cutter instead.

I got the Frontier RC 1060 for $ 700.00 at the local JD dealer.

I think it will be perfect for my needs.

Thanks to all those who offered advice.

Looks like Land Pride is building cutters for Frontier now...

That's a good price though...

I agree with Roy, good looking mower for a heck of a good price.

Thanks guys. They wanted 800 which still would have been a good price but I just had to make an offer and they took it.

This JD dealer is where I bought my JD 3520. I bought a Frontier CA 2060 core aerator from them in the Spring, got a good deal on it too.

I like to think I'm building a good relationship with them and they are giving me a good price on equipment.

They are a great bunch of guys to deal with.
