Hi everyone,

I was planning on looking at a used TC45 w/loader...tried to look up specs on loader but I couldn't find anything. I'm looking for something that will safely lift approx 1800 lbs. with some type of forks on the front. Need to lift palletized firewood off the tail of my trailer. Not real high, deck is maybe 18" off the ground.

Does anyone know if the NH loader on the TC45 will do it?

17LA

TC35D - TC45/TC45D Supersteer------106"-------1,760-1,955 lbs.*

Per the specs in my owners manual here are the specs for lift capacity to maximum height

16LA = 1540 lbs 19.7in fwd of pivot pin - 2000 lbs at pivot pin
17LA = 1545 lbs 19.7in fwd of pivot pin - 1955 lbs at pivot pin

These weight are with the standard 72" bucket (259 lbs according to the manual)

Based on my experience (TC40D with 16LA) I have been able to lift pallets around 1500 - 1600 lbs if they are evenly distributed. It struggles to lift much more especially if the weight is further from the pivot pins. My 800 lbs tiller on the storage pallet I built for it is centered around 3 ft from the pivot. It can't lift it more than 5 ft off the floor. Good thing the pallet rack slot is less than 4 ft. up.

I don't think you will be very happy with the TC45 to lift 1,800 lb on pallet forks. Those specs J_J posted apply to the loader at the pins and 19" forward. You really need a TC55 with 18LA loader for regularly lifting 1800 lb with pallet forks. Remember, you have to add the weight of pallet forks. As a general rule, I use the number of the NH loader to tell me the maximum working weight: 14 LA is 1400, 16 LA is 1600 lb, 18LA is 1800 lb. You can drag a 1800 lb pallet off your trailer with the 16LA, but the loader will be right at its limit.

Thanks for the quick responses everyone! Looks like I'll have to reconsider the amount of wood per pallet. I have 3 face cords of cherry palletized right now, 1 facecord per pallet. I think I figured on the high side at 1800 lbs. per, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Maybe 1/2 cord pallets are the way to go. Then I wouldn't have an excuse to replace my current tractor, though!

If you are going to be frequently moving 1800 pound pallets you probably ought to be looking at a larger machine as you'll be lifting pretty close to that New Hollands maximum capacity.

On the other hand, if you just got a great deal on a trailer load of palletized firewood, I'd say get the TC-45 as its a great little tractor.

JHTFarmer,

I plan on regularly cutting/splitting/palletizing firewood directly on the deck of the trailer, on a regular basis (3-6 facecords/week), hauling it home then unloading it to either burn in my stove or to sell. Either way, minimizing handling is the way to go. Right now, I have access to approx. 100 more facecords of cherry and other hardwoods stacked on the ground in log form. It's easily accessible by truck and trailer. But it's 30 miles away from home, near my recreational land (well recreational till I can move there, anyway).

For those that don't know, if you tilt the bucket up/back, , you shift the lifting point back toward the pins. You can't do this with every load, it has to be secure, and accept tilting.

I own or co-own with the bank a 2006 TC40DA with 16la loader
I did a landscape project using retaining wall blocks. It was a good experience for me with my loader limits. I tried to lift the hole pallet 2450lbs of the ground, it just lifted the back tires off the ground. Then i had about 1400lbs on the pallet, it moved it ok very light on the back(no wheel weights). I then got braver and added 1575lbs and as i backed up i turned the wheel to the left and the whole tractor went sideways( the back wheels were just barely in contact with the ground. I was a little embarrased as my as my relation and beer drinking friends were helping more like watching and they figure it would pick more up.

SO then i picked up wheel weights for the rears max 2 sets. I tried to see what it could lift then. 1575 picked it up handled it alot better more stable. I then kept the pallet up another pallet where i loaded them by hand as i loaded it i eventually had to stop because the back wheels lifted off the ground:confused: Crap so i started unloading until the wheels came back to the ground.
Still not satisfied i build a ballast box and started filling it with gravel. Have it where if i pick up a fully loaded pallet the loader will stall out. I think its too much weight but i am waiting to get it on a scale to weigh out how much the box weighs. I did pick up a pallet out of the back of my 1/2 ton pickup the pallet weighed 1750lbs the last 1/2 layer of blocks were closer to the loader than out at the end of the pallet. I could lift it up and down with no problem. But it was not comfortable. 1700lbs I would be very uncomfortable loading it on the pickup. 1575lbs on the pallet forks i usually didnt lift over 4 foot high and if i did i wasnt driving, just lifting high enough so we wouldnt have to bend over

What i have learned is the max weights for these loaders are good and they will pick up what they are rated for. However make sure you some antacids, life ins. policy and good laundry soap because when i get these weights on they are tipsy, the loader i am afraid could start breaking. I have weight on the back but ive seen full sized farm tractors split in half with 2 round bales in front and two in the back. Most round bales around here are 1200-1400 lbs. If you have 1600 on the loader and another 1600 on the rear that seems like alot.
This got longer than i thought.
I am still considering rim gaurd, im dont like the weight on the 3pt arms.

I don't think you're going to snap your tractor using the weights the loader was designed to handle, but my manual says the tires should be filled AND ballast in the back to work at those weights. I lifted my rear wheels once, but it was only for a split second and I won't allow it to happen again..

Since the hydraulics are probably strong enough to lift much more than the rated capacity, I'm sure it could be pretty easy to overload the thing and break the tractor when hitting a good sized rock at any kind of speed.

In the winter I use the loader all the time and put some pretty heavy loads of wet snow on it with only the loaded tires and the (relatively light) back blade and have never had any problems at all. Of course the weight limits for my smaller tractor are less than yours. I do covet the extra loader lift for moving rocks.
