5 gallon water bottles + bleach = Smoke???

Might be your first observation was correct, it was fog - temp of the air in the bottle exceeded the Dew Point. Instant micro convection fog. The fact that it lasted for as long as it did kinda indicates this theory doesn't hold water. :)

Or maybe I hatched & released some insidious fog that is now as we speak breeding and mutating into a man eating cloud, drifting from farm to farm, holler to holler.....leaving deflated human skin suits in it's wake?

when I was bleaching logs in my log cabin the mixture of water and bleech was about 25% bleech and 75% water.Smoke was coming from the bucket because of the stuff that was coming off the logs when I rinced the rags .**** near killed me..Coughed the taste of bleech for three days

I did some googling, and apparently Bleach reacts harshly with some organic compounds in water. It was probably not the best time to go to the spring when we just had about 4" of rain.....this is what my 5 ac "pasture" looks like right now:

Total Trihalomethanes can be created by organics and cl2. If you rinsed it out well should be fine. With 4 inches of rain, you may have some strong doses of ammonia creating some of that cloud. That is what the ammonia will do to it ,causing off gasing from the bleach making the chlorine leave the bleach.

I just cleaned out our 5 gal water bottles with bleach, nothing as you described, but I am going to our local Ag extension office and pick up a water test kit for the lab.

M7, maybe it's only radioactive chemical waste moving in the flood water, a little baking soda, vinegar and tin foil should fix it:D:laughing:

Really it sounds like the Bleach was at the right temp. to condensate?

Murph...ammonia in rainwater? How does ammonia get into rainwater?

Be careful, you might have some fertilizer leeching into your water source.
