has anyone tried the welding magnets? I think they would be really useful for fit up, but I am not sure how good they are.

I have several of their welding magnets and for what I use them for they are very good and the on/off switch is handy, the only thing to be careful with is do not drop them as I find the magnet is very brittle and shatters easily when dropped.

I have a couple. They're not bad and probably worth playing with if you can get them on sale. I also have their 90 degree welding vice and find it pretty handy. Busy Bee has them as well, I think, if there's one near you.

I've got a couple of them I use once in a while. They work fine as far as that goes, but aren't as handy as you might think, at least in my opinion.

Ok I think I will get a few when I am there. The nearest princess auto is a ferry ride, and a 2 hour drive away, so I dont go too often, and returns would suck. Depending on the cost, I might get a 90 deg welding vise as well. I have found that is the best place to get things like wire brushes.

This is great, they are opening a new princess auto localy. No more taking a daytrip to the mainland for it.

Has anyone used their 7 inch angle grinder cutoff wheels? A heck of a lot cheeper then the walters...

Edit: this is my 700th post!

That's awesome, now your better half has a daycare to send you to when she has things to do, lol. If mine has shopping to do she puts me on a budget and sends me there for a few hours (I always go over my budget though)

I have used their 4.5" cutoff wheels and I would say they seem to go down faster than others, but the price is also cheaper to match. I want to move up to a 7" angle grinder so if someone else replies I would be interested to know as well.

Well I got some stuff that doesnt suck yesterday. Their 99 cent long handle wire brushes are good. The adaptors that let you put a socket on a normal drill are great, and only cost $2 for a 1/4, a 3/8, and a 1/2 inch. Also their lincoln brand welding rods are good (of course). One thing to stay away from is in the surplus section, they had a turn table to put your tv on. It is a piece of crap. The berrings dont turn in it, so it is just a big pointless plastic disc. Another thing I noticed is they are selling speeco log splitters now.

One thing I saw there that looked really lame was their fire axe. It was just a normal cheep chinese axe, that some guy at the chinese factory badly stick welded a spike on the pole. The spike wasnt even lined up right.

I have a few of there big magnets and a few of there small ones..the bigger ones hold better and oddly enough i find i usually grab they when mocking stuff up to tack..I also have there auto dark helmet..cant beat that at 60 something dollars..

One thing not mention is there big sand blast cabinet..on sale usually 170 something and if you use silicone on the all the pieces it doesn't leak as bad..Friend of mine got one and i was skeptical till we put it together and used it..wish it was still in my shop..LOL

Powerfist welding rods are quite good. I would never buy them again though. Made in china, $14 for 5#. The lincolns right beside them are made in the USA, and cost $28 for 11#.... Lincolns are cheeper AND better......

I've been buying ProStar rods at Praxair, the price used to be pretty good. The last ones I bought were 3/32 6011, 10 or 11 lbs, almost $35 after taxes, fees, etc. Their prices have been going up steadily until they aren't a good deal anymore. I do wish PA would stock 5 lb boxes of Lincoln rods though, a 10 lb box of 6011 will last me 100 years.

I bought 5# of power fist 1/8 6013 rods a while ago. They seem just as good as the air liquide rods I bought before. And only $14..

Think the kids may have picked up the set of fog lights that come with the harness and mount for me, on half price this week.

Well the harbor freight tools that dont suck thread has been very active, but I was thinking us canucks could use a thread about our cheep chinese tools store. Ill start it off with one to stay away from. A few years back, they had a battery charger on a limited time offer for like $19. I used it a few times, then I checked the output, and it was 2 volts.....

Did you check the output current while connected to the battery? Some chargers do not put out much voltage if not connected to a battery. This is part of the reverse polarity protection. I do not know if your charger is designed like this.

When I tested the battery before I charged it, it was at 8 volts. WHen I hooked the cahrger up to it, the battery read 2 volts. The charger put out 2 volts hooked up or not.

Some chargers will not charge a very low battery. Did you try it on a good battery. Sorry to belabor this point.
