I read this thread:
http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/rural-living/211489-long-range-wireless-router-help.html

Which seemed to be about 75% people complaining about legality without answering the OP's question.

My situation:
I've 70 acres I'd LIKE to have my wireless router reach.

I've warehouses I NEED my wireless router to reach about 300' to them from the house.

Right now I've a Medialink N router that JUST reaches about 275'. I'd like to find a stronger router and then put up repeaters at a distance.

I know about cantennas etc. but would like it to be omnidirectional. I've seen ads for extenders for up to 1/2 mile.

Does anyone have recommendations for the "strongest" wireless g/n router?

Ethernet is good for 100 meters on twisted pair. Just bury a line, buy another router and configure it as a repeater at the warehouse. I know Netgear sells a router/repeater because that's how I reach the "outdoor office" in the gazebo overlooking the creek.

The old 10 base 2 ethernet used to be good for 500 meters on RG-58 coax, and I bet with a little impedance matching you could get it to work at 100 mb. I don't know about gigabit, but giving it a try would just take a little tinkering. As long as you have a ditch open, lay both CAT-6 and RG-58. Heck, you could bury some RG-11 while you are at it.

I am leaning towards buying a pair of these: TL-WA5210G - Welcome to TP-LINK for a longish range wireless link.
They claim a 15km range with the internal antenna and a 32km range with an external antenna.

About $50 each on Amazon.

Are the warehouses on the same transformer as the house?

I just installed a Western Digital power line Ethernet system to get Ethernet to my TV. The WD power line product, there are other brands that seem to be using the same core technology, plugs into your power outlet near your network connection and another device plugs in elsewhere. In my case near the TV. The WD product has two five connection routers at each end.

So far it has been working very well. I know other people who have been using different brands without problems for years. I am "only" getting about 30 MBs instead of 100 or 1000 but given our DSL connection is only 1.5 MBs it is more than enough.

You could install the WD Power Line Ethernet to run from the house to the warehouse. The warehouse could then have wireless access at that point.

This should work if all of the buildings are on the same transformer. If OTHER people are on the same transformer you would need to encrypt the power line network since the other people will have access to your network. The WD product includes encryption.

The other OP did not get many answers since he was trying to steal a service.

Later,
Dan

That looks like a pretty neat product. Great price too. I can think of a use for that. The equipment costs not much more than one month of internet at the remote
location.

Is this for a point to point link between fixed location, or do you expect to use standard wireless devices roaming around (laptop, phone, etc.)? If so, then you will likely be limited to the transmitter power of the mobile devices, which is probably around 150' range.

I used two of these:

PICO2M-HP - 2.4GHz hi power 802.11N outdoor AP

to setup a wireless bridge between my barn and my house. About 800 feet. May need to trim some tree branches next summer, though.

Works well.

I did try it just as an access point, and it sort of worked out to 1000 feet at my neighbor's. One should work to 300 feet as an access point.

Good luck!

You don't say whether you want to use multiple devices simultaneously.

If noy may I suggest mifi. With mifi you use cellphone facilities and a shirt pocket router. The router is battery powered and the size of a cellphone. wherever you go, wifi wireless goes with you.

I use the verizon one.

I would recommend Ubiquiti's Unifi AP's. I am installing 3 of their Long Range units on our 5 acres and I expect to have near end to end coverage. The cost should be under $250 for a 3 pack, shipped. The Unifi's are based on a software controller that you install on any PC to manage the AP's. They support auto grid and roaming capabilities, allowing you to deploy them across several structures (within 300-500ft) and create a large mesh network.

Will this cover your entire farm? No, but it will cover you house, warehouse, and any other place within 300ft that you can extend outwards.
