Mowing wild hogs

You do know that there is no such thing as a wild hog native to North America? They are all domestic hogs that have gone wild, either from escaping from a farm, or intentionally released into the wild.

Once a domestic pig goes wild, it changes. It's tail straightens, it's ears stand up and it grows body hair. This starts in months!!!!!

That's what they say, I do know that Eastern Cherokee tell stories from the elders of "si'-qua" stealing food and even babies. Some of these stories by other eastern tribes such as the Hatteras, date to the early 1500's. Of course that still leaves a hundred years that Spanish, French or English, etc... could have brought pigs accidentally from ships exploring the coast before any landings were made and far longer for Vikings, Minoans, Chinese and who knows who else to have introduced European or Asian pigs.

Domestic hogs also have one less tooth along the lower jaw...the Russians have that tooth...

Just bought a new hog gun, a few days on the range and a few in the field, and I'll get a few. a rifle is just to bulkie to tote around the tractor. and maybe, I will make less tripe to the grocery store for pork chops LOL

The peccary, known as the javelina to us, is a notable resident of ancient South America. They began migrating north centuries ago into the area that is now the United States. Quibble over the term "native," okay. Were they present long before the feral domestic hog issue? Yes.

People out west know of javelinas and generally tend to refer to most wild hogs as javelinas. Most western game departments up to 20 or so years ago referred to any wild hog generally as a "javelina." The variations and obvious domestic traits we see today weren't so apparent or prevalent until the last decade or so.

While I've never hunted Javalina, I'm well aware of them and how they are similar in apperance. From what I understand, and what I just read on the Wiki link you provided, they are not pigs.

What cal. is that? Looks like a .45 or .44 mag to me. I would rather have a lever action carbine in either 30-30, or 45-70, but I think that revolver will work well.

If you want an idea of the damage hogs can cause; blindfold a hyperactive teenager, give them a big rototiller, and have them run all over the place with it until the gas tank goes dry.
