Used oil analysis don't lie. Rotella 5w40 synthetic is very hard to top in a diesel.

Well, I figured out my oil but got all confused when I started trying to figure out which transmisson fluid to get (and how much of it!!!) Figured out the 75-140 is probably the right one for the rear end, and wanted synthetic, but didn't know if I was going to need to add an additive for positraction or not. Problem with buying a used truck, is if you don't know what parts were available for a certain year/model then you have to kind of muddle around till you get it all figured out. If any of you Ford fans can teach a bowtie guy a few tricks about what a six speed holds in the way of "Mercon" and where to get it in synthetic, it would be apreciated. I only found a single quart of 75-140 synthetic (at $19.98 it stayed on the shelf). Called a friend who said he could get me enough at a better price. Looks like it should take about 4 quarts to fill the rear, unles it happens to be a Dana 135 (which I don't have a clue about either??) So I guess I will approach that problem when I go to find the gasket to take the cover off.

on edit...
Bought 4 gallons of Rotella T on my run last night. 2 gallons cost me $22 and the other two cost me $5 because I used my frequent fueler points at two different brands of truck stops. In the future I will probably have enough to buy them at no costs, because I buy a lot of fuel.

Shipping a killer? How about your gas, time etc to go get your Premium blue? Just saying you are not looking at the big picture.

I drive by a TSC, not making a special trip.

If Amsoil was serious about increasing market shares, they would ditch the MLM approach.

Canadian Tire and some hardlare stores are carrying Amsoil, but only what the local market calks for, i e 0w40 atv oils.

So they are not serious? I guess Weber grills, Stihl saws etc are not serious either.

Is it a good oil sure. Are there better oils, sure but it depends on what the end user is looking for.

You can buy a Weber in a store, a stihl at every dealer around the corner. However, if you can drive to a local Canadian Tire, TSC, or Hardware and buy 15W40 or 5W40 for the tractor, 5W30 for my truck that is equally good as Amsoil, then why should I buy Amsoil??

No benefit to it at all. Amsoil reminds me so much of Amway it is sickening. The whole MLM sceme.

Hello, OP here; I asked a specific few questions to get some input as to what some of you have been using for oil in your diesel TRACTORS.
I didn't ask for, nor do I appreciate the bickering over whether Amsoil is a good oil, or if Rotella is good or better, etc.
I don't need, nor do I want to have this thread hijacked by those who want to waste time going on about S&H, multi-level marketing, etc.
I don't need the added hassle of going through the motions to buy Amsoil as a preferred customer, dealer, or from another established dealer or off the shelf somewhere a long way away from where I live. I do not have the time nor inclination to meet minimums to get a good or reasonable price on something I don't buy enough quantity of in any given year.
What I asked for and would appreciate is sound advice from personal experience, like Diamond Pilot gave me, early on.
I may be new to tractors, but I was and am now a retired, (sold my shop property in 1986), foreign auto shop owner and skilled mechanic who bought the best products for my customers, like Castrol oil and Gislaved tires, etc. I bought the Castrol in bulk in 55 gallon barrels, and was able to keep the barrels FREE due to oil volume purchased.
Back then one of my customers was trying to convince me to use Amsoil in my cars and I never did, but tried it when I started changing oil in my first DK series tractor.
Now I'm switching to Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck oil due to it's easy availability, and brand recognition, etc.
This personal choice is just that. ANY name brand diesel oil is going to be a good product, some MAYbe better than others, but no one on this forum that I've encountered is RACING their diesel tractor in competition, are they?!
Every 100-200hr oil change is not long enough to see significant differences in these synthetic oils, from the standpoint of cold start characteristics, or any other criteria one comes up with IMHO.

One aside: I do think if Amsoil wanted to increase market share significantly they would be on the shelf in TSC, Walmart, etc.
And for what it's worth I am NOwhere near a store of any kind, TSC or otherwise it's 40 minutes on a good day for me to get to any of the above; however I'm sick and tired of having to meet someone's contrived criteria to get the product I may want to otherwise buy- so until then it's going to be what is readily available on national chain store shelves.

One last point, STIHL brand saws are sold to professionals and home/farm
owners alike. This is definitely a product I know well, I was prior to owning my auto shop a pro tree surgeon, (also refer to signature below). Now Stihl chooses to sell in certain markets but not in the Home Depots, etc., probably because they are unwilling to cheapen their product line to the point of selling the quality of saw one can buy at a Home Depot. Not knocking what HD sells, just saying the price point is not conducive to the market at a HD.

Thanks to those who have contributed on topic. For those who want to argue whatever- start your own thread.

Thanks,

CM out.

You are missing the point; these dealers have to pay and work the same way as a MLM...this is way more commen then you think.

Rotella is not even close to Amsoil; hence why you pay more. Amsoil has has better performance. Shear stability and TBN retention.

Amsoil does not need to sell in anyother avenue. Plus people in some area will not pay there price.

Again the MLM issue, and other %^*&, was brought up long before you were here. Been there done that.

Yea, but T6 has been proven by OTR truckers as an extremely reliable oil. Can Amsoil claim the same?

sw03 and Williambos,
Maybe you missed my earlier reply asking you to take this lame argument to a thread started by one of you?!
