Kubota RTV 900
Hey guys and gals, so I went to a local drive threw auction a couple of days ago and up came a 2007 RTV 900. I didn't get a chance to look closely at it or the hours, thought it looked good from 30' away and said why the **** not. Ended up winning the auction at 5500 and after the 3% fee and taxes drove it away for 6060.00. Afterwards I started to look over it and found out it was a rental with 3200 hours. A lot of hours I would think but being a diesel motor some would say it's just broke in. Starts and runs great and the 4 wheel drive seems to work fine, the hours are what I'm concerned about. Did I screw up pay to much? Thanks....

Personally, considering its age, hours and rental history, i think you might have paid a bit too much.

I can only speak for myself, but i wouldnt pay that much for that machine.

Thanks Jason, if I decided to try and sell it what should I be asking. There's only one for sale locally it's a 09 for 9300. With low hours.

Nobodys born knowing everything, just a couple legends in their own minds. :D
Even an 85 year old man learns something new sometimes even daily.
IMHO you over-paid for it. No big deal, enjoy it, learn from it.
Learn from the whole experience at least it wasn't $65,000.
Play safe/Hard ! You can always trade it in down the road towards a tractor at a Bota dealership !

I bought a 2006 model with 68 hours for $8500 in 2010. It has spray in bed liner, plastic canopy, glass windshield and front mounted winch and looked like new without a blemish so I think it was a good deal. At the time, a new one comparable equipped was $12000. $6k+ for a 2007 with 3200 hours is probably a lot more than it can be sold for although with the Kubota diesel engine, it is likely good for several thousand more trouble free hours. I would think more like $4K would have been a better auction price if it had windshield and canopy top. Maybe a bit less if just roll bars.

I'm inclined to agree with Jason. The RTVs appear to hold value, but several TBN members have obtained good deals by buying via private treaty.

That's a lot of hours on annual basis -- 600 plus. Most of the RTVs I've seen listed in TBN's Classified section seem to average less than 200 hours or so per year.

I think that you did not get hurt at that price. I'm sure that things vary regionally ($). The hours should not scare you but it's prolly time to look at a hydro. fluid & filter change, that can be expensive if neglected.

I looked them up on Tractorhouse and according to the asking price there, you didnt do too badly if it is in good shape. Most of them from 2005 -2007 are asking $8500 or more. Accessories like glass windshield, winches, hydraulic dump bed (I thought this was standard but apparently not) fully enclosed cab can add a lot to the price of one. Realizing that Tractorhouse is not a real life indication of what you can expect to pay for one, but it will get you in the ball park. One has to be careful at auctions to keep from overbidding which is what happens a lot of times. If the circumstances were mine, I would keep it for a few years and likely if prices keep rising, you can sell it for as much or more than you gave for it if it is mechanically sound. The hours could be inflated beyond the actually working hours. Ignition on, hour meter is running, Idle same as wide open throttle so the Hobbs meter is not like a tachometer run hour meter which is much preferred for judging the engine working load.

If I were you I would change all the fluids, go over the machine and use it. Its a diesel so the hrs are fine. Even if you put 200 Hrs a year on it for the next 10 years you will still be just over 5K which is still fine....
Enjoy it

Thanks guys, I should have mentioned that it's a manual dump bed :( as far as the fluid changes at least I can say that all the filters are new. Oh well, live and learn right. Beats spending 12,500 on a new one I guess.
