Price Check Did i screw up buying a 2007 Kubota RTV 900

Thats the scary thing about auctions. I personally would never bid on something I haven't looked over up close before hand. Theres too much risk at an auction. The worst part is that even inspecting things over up close doesn't guarantee anything, you still don't know its history or how it was treated. At the price you paid it isn't a huge mistake that you should hang your head over but hopefully you learn from it and plan better so you can inspect everything at the auction well before the bidding starts. At least then you limit your chance of overpaying.

But in the end you got a nice machine and I am sure you will have fun with it and make doing some of the chores easier and enjoyable

I'd say you paid market value. I don't own one to tell you for sure but as long as it suits your needs I wouldn't sell it and buy another, that would really put you upside down.

I'd run it! I guess the next buyer down did look at it! Your fine for the money although you didn't steal it but they will run a lot more hours then whats on that one.

Its buyer beware at auctions. Yes, you should have looked more closely at the RTV and set your max bid accordingly. Since it's a diesel and as long as it runs good enjoy it. I would change all the fluids to be safe.

I have been to many auctions and found lots of people don't do their research ahead of time and pay too much. At one auction years ago I saw an 18 year old tractor with over 4000 hours (26HP CUT) sell for $9500 plus commission (over 10K total). The tractor needed some repairs and was only worth about 6K. At another auction I saw 2 used PJ trailers sell for more than retail and both needed parts too.

Not trying to be mean, but I would say you overpaid. 3200 hours is a lot for an rtv IMHO. You did not get robbed, but I have seen better private deals near that amount and lot lower hours.

My local dealer gets many rtv 1100's back from railroad leases after a few years. Yours was probably a lease return more than a rental. Many from the railroad were in rough shape. Most will have 3-4000 hours. One had over 10000 hours. Had one returned with less than 200 hours. Dealer said a lot of time in cold weather they just let them run all day long because they want them warm when they get in. My dealer has leased hundreds of machines to railroads.

Thanks Jason, if I decided to try and sell it what should I be asking. There's only one for sale locally it's a 09 for 9300. With low hours.

Honestly, i probably wouldnt sell it if i was you. Not much sense now. You could try and get what you paid for it if you wanted, but i wouldnt lose my shirt in the deal just to get rid of it.

If its been serviced regularly, you should probably do well with it. Issues are that if it WASNT serviced regularly or was abused, the expense can go through the roof quick.

Hard to say what its history is, but it could have come from a golf course or similar. They can put a fair number of hours on, but most are pretty decent on maintenance and they dont kill them for the most part.

Regardless of the hours, buying any machine used has the risk of abuse or no proper service. Its one of the reasons I shy away from used equipment unless you know and trust the seller or if it has such low hours you can take the chance with little risk.

I wouldn't sell this RTV either. Whats the point? If it works and does the job then enjoy it and make the most out of it. By the time its ready to be replaced the price paid should be a moot point.

its only a bit high, but only if the drivelines are okay. Check the u-joints at the axles and the driveline from the engine to trans. At that number of hours, they many need a costly replacment.

We have sold off many of the Gators and Club cars over the last couple 2 years with gas engines with around 1500-2500hrs no cabs, just roll bars and canopies, for around $1800-$2800.Most had many costly repairs to transmissions, axles brakes, over and over through 4 years of abuse (not use).

While the price you paid was a bit high even for retail (closer to $4k has been mentioned and I agree) still not a bad purchase, engine should be ok but as the above mentioned post said, check the drive-line carefully, also have the dealer check the serial number, they may be able to find which rental company bought it in 07', many large rental companies keep records of every item that was done over it's life as a rental, including regular checks,minor/major repairs etc. I would keep it, and use it for a couple years to get some return on the purchase back, then sell it.

Auctions are easy to get caught up in, and sometimes you could pay more than street or dealer price on something if you are not clear on new vs used vs scrap prices. If I am looking for some thing I try and research those factors as best as possible to pay as little as possible, because many time you can only look at something for a few minutes vs shopping and trying it out first (not much hands on at auctions). I have passed on many items my wife thought I was nuts to do because of the high bid, until we got home and I showed her average used prices.

I would keep it. If it works well, and you like the thing, no point selling it. As for the price live and learn, but that is no reason to sell it (take more loss) and replace it. You made a bit of a mistake buying it, selling it would be another.
