I priced the following package at 2 dealers.

John Deere 2720
CX200 loader
62D deck
Independent lift
Diverter valve.
Front & rear work lights & light guards
Front PTO
655 tiller.
sales tax.

- trade in of a 2007 2320, CX200 loader, 62D deck. front & rear work lights, 210 hours

Dealer 1, 12 miles from me, my regular dealer, I have bought a lot of equipment from them over the years, price difference of $14,808.00

Dealer 2, 19 miles from me, I have never done business with them before, price difference of $9,158.00

I do not have the same respect for my regular dealer as I used to.

It always pays to shop around. I don't play one dealer against another but I ask for their best price right up front. Each dealer gives me the best price they have and I go from there. The last Kubota I bought I actual had priced from three different Kubota dealers. Two dealers were very close on the tractor, one was considerably higher and I wasn't too impressed with that dealer anyway.

But multiple prices are a great way to find out which dealer is treating you properly and which one is looking to get rich off you.

Hiya,

With that much of a difference on figures that small, honestly I would suspect one of the dealers made a mistake. Hope I'm wrong.

Same here, One dealer gave me 6K more for a trade in 20 minutes after the first dealer tried to steal my trade it.

How these people look themselves in the mirror, I will never know.

Thing is, if they did it to you they've done it a thousand times before and that's a thousand people that will never ever shop with that dealer again. That's what I don't understand.

Treat everyone fair and honest, get customers and keep customers for life.

Well like an old girlfriend told be decades ago " if business was easy everyone would be doing it" Those words stuck with me hard.

With a difference of $5650 I hope you got the second quote in writing. Thats to much difference imo, I suspect one of the two is in error.

Remember, its a combination of what the dealer offered for trade and what they quoted for the new tractor. If someone offers you a good price for your trade and a great price on the new tractor the difference can add up pretty fast if the other guy lowballs the trade in and prices the new unit high.

You guys are right. Here's my story...

In 1993 I wanted to trade a 4 year old Kubota L2850, MFWD, and loader for a JD 5200, 540 loader, MFWD, big rubber(16.9x28 rears. loaded with cal/chlor.) and 8 foot Landpride rear blade.

Dealer 1, 8 miles away, offers $7500 for Kubota and says "I'm lucky because Deere is offering $500 off the 5200." "Can't you give anymore for the Kubota because I expect it will sit on the lot for 3-6 months." So the result is $24,000-$500-$7500=$16,000.

Dealer 2, 25 miles away, offers $10,000 for Kubota in trade and reduces the JD price to $21,200. Result is $21,200-$10,000=$11,200.

So I go with Dealer 2 and on a Friday morning the 5200 is delivered and the Kubota is taken back. Saturday at noon he calls me to tell the Kubota is sold and is off the lot!

DONT get me started about prices being all over the board at different dealerships. Its amazing on how much the same tractor (NEW) can be at different places.

But with cars and trucks a new rig costs aprox the same at any new car dealership. They dont have the same huge differences in $$$.

not sure why.

My local JD dealer pissed me off when i went shopping for a new cab tractor last year in alot of respects.

1. I left 3 messags for the salesman about some questions i had on overall dimensions and options and never even called me back...never. I had to call him.

2. Wouldn't budge from JD's build a tractor suggested price... not one bit.

3. Even though ive purchased from him before, and he knew me by site and name, he acted like he could care less if he sold me a trctor or not.

I ended up shopping and buying some wheres else. I might have to go further to get service work done...but in the last 14 years ive only taken the old tractor in 1 time for service. and parts like filters can be fed-ex'd to me.

Bottom line.,... I have NO ISSUES with shopping around for service and pricing. People do it to me all the time (im an electrical contractor), and if i cant meet the other guys price, i tell them.....good luck with your job... and move on.

No hard feelings.

When I traded tractors 4 or 5 yrs ago went to 3 different dealers
First dealer was $35or 3800 more than my dealer. the other one was $15-1800 more..
So depends my guess is dealer giving best deal already has a customer wanting his used tractor..
