Good Evenin Guys,
Thanks for all your input ! I just got one good trailer load and will go back for a few more. As Jimmy and others have said I will just mix it in with the good stuff and use it for getting the fire going again and for spring and fall use !

Some of the rounds are rather large but it does spit quite easily, and should provide some amount of heat anyway !

I burn poplar when it is available, dried, and rot-free. I use wood harvested from my place to heat with a wood furnace. Trees available in order of numbers are fir, birch, pine and poplar. In order of what I burn are pine, birch, fir and poplar, with pine + birch five times the amount of fir + poplar. The order is mainly due to harvesting when the trees are at or near the end of their life cycle.

I've attached a previous post's link to a useful chart from the book "Firewood and Your Chain Saw". It is interesting to see the heat values for different species.

There are basically 2 kinds of poplar being discussed here........In the north it is small in diameter and short lived........The southern tree, tulip poplar grows up to 3' in diameter and lives quite a long life............

We've got all kinds in the north, quaking aspen, big tooth aspen, tulip, cottonwood, you name it.

Yes, I've burned Poplar to erase any and all evidence that I thoroughly screwed up a wood project.:laughing:

I've heard it said that there is more creosote in poplar (like softwood) than there is in the traditional hardwoods.

I have a wood burning neighbor who orders a load of popple ( aspen ) from me every year. He uses it fall and spring in his kitchen stove for those "I need a quick fire" times. I burn some too.

Just be careful with it Scotty as it will burn hot and quickly. Typical type of fire that start the chimney a blaze.
