I'm the same way, don't hunt at all any more. Not against it in principle but I want even shoot a bird. A coyote is different, though, or any other danger for that matter.

Probably pretty common. The older I get the less inclined I am to pull the trigger. As a matter of fact, it's not the bigguns I've killed that are seared into my memory but the bigguns I let walk on by that bring back the most vivid images.

I usually put my scope on them and mentally go "bang"; don't make much sense, but I do it.

A funny thing happened a couple of years ago. My wife, sons and I travel some distance to camp out and deer hunt; family time. My youngest son and I were hunting on the opposite sides of a ridge when a nice deer came by and stopped about 75 yards out and I put my scope on him and didn't feel like taking him, so I let him walk. At quitting time, I was talking to my youngest son and he said he had done the same thing for some reason; just that deer's day I guess.

My son later took one with a gun and one with a bow on our farm.

I can understand that.

Sorry' no coyotes get a pass here.

Same here in Central IL.

Way to many of them. Not enough people hunt them on a reg basis.

Most areas the populations are so high you can hunt them with bait.

On my property there is never a missed opportunity to put a yote down.

I've hunted them some, but only managed to shoot one. I've tried calling them in, but they are smarter than me. I've called in cats, owls, hawks, a bald eagle, racoons, posumms, but only one coyote. The one I did call in I missed. The one I shot was sitting in my back yard. In my area, there are a lot of them out there.

Speaking of Coyotes. Did any of you see the segment on TV of the first documented case of coyotes killing an adult human (Taylor Mitchell)? I think it occurred in 2006 on some island in the far northeast area just outside of U.S. (Canada).

It was 2 years ago in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia...

And just a few days ago a guy recorded [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOP8iALfDQk&feature=player_embedded"]this[/ame] with his cell phone in his back yard in New Brunswick...

There's a $20 bounty in Nova Scotia, per coyote. "They say" bounties are not effective at control as the coyotes will naturally start to have larger families to compensate.

Does anyone see a common item here? Humans. We constantly deforest and build, pushing these animals into tighter quarters. Then we complain when they eat our cats, birds, etc. We complain when they eat rabbits, deer and other critters we did not get the opportunity to kill first. We are not the only meat eaters on the planet. Now, I live in an area where coyotes, deer, hog, rabbit, fox and bobcat are plentiful. Know whats not plentiful? Humans and houses. Just wanting everyone to think both ways before you blast an animal. I will say this in your defense. If I come home and a coyote is fighting with my dog, I will shoot the coyote. I also trap and remove wild hogs from my property because they destroy hayfields and crops and also spread disease. They are also not native to the U.S. much less my area. Please hunt, but do so with some respect and regard for life.

Who gets to decide when no more folks get to move out of the city on to a wonderful piece of property in the country?

Some folks that have had the good fortune to be in the situation they are in want to be the last ones allowed out of the city... the rest of the country side has to be reserved for nature.

Would we feel the same if some group were allowed to decide who had to move off of their property and into an urban area to give back more land to nature? Would we feel the same if they said it was our land that was nice and remote and we have to leave to keep more for nature?

Before we say too many humans out here - are we willing to give up our situation? If not, how can we say someone else can't have the same?

Just another point of view...

Population spread, which by the way, covers less than 5% of dry land, is not the reason for coyote spread. Laws controlling trapping, poisons, etc... play a large roll as well as nature adapting They were near extinction in many areas so nature changed their habits as well as their very genetics making them my h more dangerous to humans.

How many animals were displaced through the construction of your home and yard?
