Guys, CTF may not know what an 8-track or cassette tape is, much less what a record player is.;)

He might not even know what a CB radio is....

Jeez guys, my thread appears to have become a "Whippersnapper/wannabe gang" vs the "Over the hill gang...." p******g match.

Wouldn't bother me a bit, if I wasn't part of the over the hill gang...

Good grief, my youngest son is 33.

My oldest is 26, my youngest will be 3 in exactly 3 weeks. In the middle I have a 13 and 11 year old.

I will be 48 in April, I've had an old phono with 33 1/3, 45, and 78 rpm, but I've never seen a 78 (I think).

78 rpm was chosen as the standard in 1925, and ruled until about 1948-49, when 33 and 45 rpm records were introduced. 78's stayed in mass production until about 1960. Hmmm, my wife was born in 1952, although she is a serious pack rat, I doubt if she has any 78's...so I am not going to look.

I'm not sure CompactTractorFan would even know what a 33 1/3rd RPM Record is!!

(CTF: a 33 1/3rd record is a vinyl album. Many years ago (1940s and before, I guess...before my time) were played at 78 RPM...record players had 3 speeds back then. The 3rd speed was 45 RPM).

You're showing your age, David!!

Actually Roy, weren't the 78 rpm records made out of bakelite not vinyl? I only saw a few in my lifetime but I was thinking they weren't vinyl like the 45's and 33 1/3 RPMs like we grew up with and they would break if you dropped them on a hard surface.. Sheesh. I have't owned a turntable now in over 15 years. I hooked up our old VHS player to granny's TV downstairs the other day, as she has some old VHS tapes she wanted to watch and the thing still worked. We had not used it in probably 10 years. It is amazing how media keeps changing so fast. and now no real media at all. Just streaming data.

Crash,

Anytime you are in Northern Virginia, you just come on over!

Y'all will always be welcome at my place sir!

David

Was there 1 time in 1953 or 4. Beautiful country. Stayed at a Bowen Meeks farm. Did some haying for him. Dad said it was to pay the rent. Met the Moss family and a few others that I don't remember.

It was the spring or summer after Clell (Dad) killed the coyote. If memory is correct it was killed by a little cemetery on the Moss farm.

Would love to visit, but don't travel much anymore. Don't even like to go into town. Get down to Tombstone once or twice a year.

Many thanks for the offer.
Jim

My Grandmother is 99, and wants to got to Las Vegas for her 100th...

Good for her; hope she makes it to Vegas. No one in my family ever lives to be that old. In fact, I have one aunt who is now 89 and she's the only living relative I have who is older than I.
