For the backhoe all you need is seat time and be careful where you dig.

I recently asked in another thread about the JD 5520 ... got alot of good info, man this site is awesome ... anyway I bought it and here's some pictures ...
JD 5520 Cab MFWD, Backhoe ... came from my neighbor who bought it new with every option available ... darn nice unit.

Might be last rig you'll ever need. Maybe hyd-PHD on mounted FEL and your good to go !

Thanks Bob ... it a monster compared to my Montana 4340 and the Branson5530 ... not as user friendly as the Branson, the Branson has a console with loaded options at your finger tips. This tractor is not shuttle shift and I find my left hand wondering looking for the shuttle lever ... the JD is all on the right ... A,B&C range and the other 3 speed ... but I'm geting the hang of it.

Thanks bigbull ... I used it a bit again this afternoon and found it went a little better. I've got an area in one of the fields that's a little low with 30-40 scrub oaks about 6" in diameter ... those little fellows are on tomorrows hit list!!

I have the 48 backhoe and have dug out quite a few stumps and rocks with it. I agree with the advice to keep the RPM's low. My backhoe manual even states that more RPM's don't give you more power, just more speed. I usually run mine at 1500 RPM, seldom above 1600 RPM for hoe work.
