washing off grease

I usually use simple green. Spray it on, let it sit for 10 minutes and rinse off with the power washer connected to the hot water. Works good

I agree with several of the above methods, but ...

BE CAREFUL around rubber boots on joints and shifters. The high pressure can send water under the boot and inside somewhere water has no business being

+1 The pressure washer is OK if all you do is knock the worst of the mud off your tractor once in a while, but after using it a few times on my equipment, I concluded it wasn't any good at removing grease and was generally more trouble than it's worth for any kind of careful cleaning of the engine, drivetrain, operator station, etc.
A) You may strip paint.
B) You have very good odds of driving water into "somewhere water has no business being". There are about a hundred such places on any tractor, particularly at places likely to have grease accumulations.
C) The high pressure spatters mud, grit, debris everywhere... elsewhere on the tractor, 20 feet in every direction and on you.

I prefer to wipe off the excess grease as well as possible with paper towels and rags. I don't want a buildup of the grease on the shop floor or ground as it is easily tracked everywhere including the house.

I will occasionally use my pressure washer to clean the equipment but don't think it is a good idea to get too close with it.

i use simple green. not as agressive as purple power if you don't get to it fast.. no damage to paint.

but any degreaser like that and some power wash usually does the trick..

just don't get right down ont he paint real close with super high pressure..

I bought an electric washer just for this sort of thing. safer on paint..e tc..

Thank you for all the ideas!!!

The grease is Moly from where I greased my tractor fittings. I wiped it but it smeared and the smearing is what I want to remove.

I use Moly too, and as you know it is ugly black. Just hit the smears with some WD40 on a rag, and your good to go. Quick and easy. Maybe use some simple green and wash carefully once in a while. But the WD40 thing works quickly and doesn't seem to hurt the paint. At least mine hasn't worn off yet.

I'd be very careful with Dawn on the paint...that stuff is strong. I use a de-greaser. Personally, I would not use Dawn.
