Diesel fuel storage tank

/ Diesel fuel storage tank #11
Spent $75 on Craigslist and got a 100 gallon oval tank with a rotary pump on it.
The pump leaks a little around the front seal (need to oil it), and it needed a new filterbut for the price, I couldn't go wrong. At some point when I am feelign rich, it will probbaly get a new hose with an auto shutoff nozzle, but for now the old hardened hose works fine.
It now sits on a wheeled dolly in the machine shed. MUCH more convenient than 5 gallon cans.

Call your local fuel oil jobber who can likely steer you to someone who has a tank they no longer use and the jobber will happily fill it.

Thanks guys lots of good ideas here. I guess I may go back to the original idea, or maybe one of those 30 gallon with wheels and a pump.

I don't think any of you have thought of this, but diesel fuel goes bad faster then I ever thought it would. So if you don't burn it fast enough don't store too much, this new bio diesel is worse then regular diesel also. I have a diesel tractor it holds 10 gallon of fuel and i didn't use it urchin 3 month and I ended up taking it to a dealer and they ground the valves thinking it had a bad valve. Ended up bad diesel they said I was the first person that had the problem, but I just talked to them a couple days ago and they said they have had 10 other tractors since me with the exactly same problem.

Biodiesel, you are looking for trouble. You also get less energy out of it.

The biggest issues with diesel are getting water in it (don't store it outside) and algae growth in warm weather (don't store it outside, use an algaecide if you are concerned).

Good diesel won't go bad for years if stored reasonably. (Bio diesel is not "good" diesel.)

I used a 55 gallon drum for a couple of years until that was too small. Now I use a 245 gallon plastic container. I get a delivery every 8-10 months. I haven't had a problem.

Diesel vapors are not the explosive problem like gasoline vapors.

I have stored regular diesel for 3 years with no issues. I do treat it with biocide and Howse fuel treatment.

Another point, all diesel has atleast 5% biodiesel by law in some states, so good luck not getting any. Just saying I know that for a fact in agricultural fuel in Illinois maybe some states are different. I dunno.

Biocide should go in with the bio.

Biocide should go in with the bio.

No, biocide should be fed to the dishonest politicians that do this sort of thing.
