Do yourself a favor and switch to Mozilla Firefox. I did many years ago and haven't had any regrets. Keep IE and let MS update it. Just don't use it.

again.. not possible.

I would NEED to use it.. and just letting ms updated it has caused problems. for instance.. this last update actually prevented IE from loading correctly.. kept erroring out and relaoding untill you gunned the process.

the previous problem I had with ie7 occured at that critical time during reboot while it was still configuring the software, and was actually blue screening on bootup unless you came up in safe mode.

so just letting it 'ride' is not an option.

ie 8 solved whatever problem ie 7 was having. I'm gonna wait out ie 10 as 9 looks to be the same sort of dungheap that 7 was....

i only tried to go to 7 after a few sites I had been browsing no longer supported 6.. thus forcing me to upgrade.. luckilly i had waited it out long enough that I could go to 8 after the ie7 self aborted..

ie 8 has been FINE.. I like it... plan on keeping it as long as possible now that I see what 9 has to offer. ( actually the 'offer' of more viewable area for a page is what tempted me to try to upgrade ( upgrade? is it an upgrade if it screws everything up?? ) to 9 in the first place... should have known that was a sirens call.. to lure unsuspecting pc owners into falling overboard and being devoured by the blue screen monsters that live in buggy brittle code :)

did I mention I LIKE ie 8! like it evenmore now!

am actually a really big fan of system restore too!

whatever software engineer wrote ie 8 needs a raise. whataver engineer wrote system restore wrote system restore, needs 2 raises. whoever wrote ie 7 and 9 need the gallows!! :) :)

I've been running IE9 for months without issue on a moderate CPU, gigs of ram and Win7. I cannot say that I have seen issues with IE9 like crashes on all the workstations I support. Your mileage may vary.

oops?

yeah.. I'd call the IE7 code an oops all right.. it didn't do what it claimed it would / could do.. resulting in a bluescreen, and plenty of work reverting back to before the ''upgrade''

You missed the message I was trying to convey. You misspelled something in a funny way. Read the quote again and you'll see it.

I saw the purient humor attempt and ignored it.

i find nothing funny about pointing out a typo... i type on a mobile platform with a chicklet keypad that has the keys so close together I can hit 5-6 of them at a time.

one member here has found it 'funny' enough to start an entire thread about it publicly berating and deriding me about the typo and misspellings I have due to the mobile devices I post from, vs a sit down desktop computer where i might actually have a full 104 key keyboard, a screen larger than a cell phone, and spell check....

funny typo huh?

Where the heck did that come from? So much for having a sense of humor.

MS has produced too many products that relied on the consumer to troubleshoot to warrant respect.

He has no sense of humour.

And little does he know, i spent 3 years of my life supporting this product.. 5 and sometimes 6 days a week, 8 hours a day.

Its easy to blame MS.. Its never MY computer.. Its always MS. My computer has nothing on it, i only go to TBN.. just like the little old ladies car that only went to church on sundays. Ive heard it all before. And it brings me great joy to point out to the user that "its not me.. its you".

99.95% of the time.. Its you. Your software.. your add ins. whatever.. its you.

Uninstall or disable all that, and unless the install is truly corrupt, everything from SP's to IE updates (which have a lot of security updates rolled in, hence the conflicts) install just fine.

I dont need to read FAQ's... anybody with half the skill you let on you have, would understand that disabling all AV,running applications and add ins before a major update, which ANY IE update is, would be a smart thing to do.. matter of fact, it usually IS spelled out in the installation instructions and/or during the install. Relying on the installer to search out all the possible interactions with 3RD PARTY add ins is not advised.. Do you know how many obscure add ins are out there that could be missed?
