I don't like that knot about 3' from the right on the second row of logs from the bottom. I'd just pull the whole thing down to the block work and start over. :D

It should be flattering that the guys here want to give you the best input they can based on their knowledge and experience because we're all so interested in your thread. Keep up the good work M7. I'm really enjoying this thread as much as I did Eddie's thread about building Lake Maribou. What I love about TBN isn't just the knowledge to be gained, but the sheer drive and determination guys like you display in taking on big projects. When I don't have one going on, I like to at least follow someone else's for motivation.

TS, no problem....I can chainsaw that knot right out:thumbsup: Oh, and I am flattered and I know all of us don't see eye to eye on everything. I really do listen & contemplate all suggestions, and having all these ideas at my fingertips is a great help.

So, no rain today. I disconnected my big stove, slung it on the forks and transported it up to the basement:

Oh, and that dark thing on the ground is a SHADOW.... apparently caused by a big orange ball high in the sky....rarely seen these days.

I have it in the corner of the basement. I had initially planned on running the flue up behind the stove than 90 degree-ing up to it. I was playing around and was wondering why I could not just put the "T" on top of the stove? For clean out, I can just stuff something(rag) into the side of the "T", brush the flue, vacuum out the creosote, then pull out the rag.

Opinions?

Guys, we have hashed this out and re-hashed that hash, so no we have has-bean hash:laughing:. I agree we disagree, and I am moving forward. I really do appreciate all the info and discussion, now it is all moot....the glass is ordered and en-route
M7, putting your project online for everyone to comment on as you go can sometimes be hard. When you put so much of yourself into such a big endeavor, it takes a big man to not take personal the suggestions/critiques people make. You handle them well making your thread very popular. I enjoy checking in on your build. Keep up the great work and thanks for taking the effort to post your project.

I too, totally enjoy this thread. Sorry if you misunderstood my intentions, many of us are just making free suggestions with our wit. As widely known on this board, suggestions can be very expensive or can save you money. It only matters that you are happy in the end, and we will be happy for you!

A stove! At last, a heat source! Keep on chugging!

No, no misunderstandings here at all, I know everyone is helping by giving their best advise. It is hard to veer a one track mind like mine, especially since I could
see the whole house and it's design in my pea brain years before I started building it(makes it hard to sleep at times:laughing:). I think that is what makes it hard for me to deviate too much and what leads me to try and make things work when there are better and or different methods out there. I only have a few to scale hand drawn sketches that I made mainly for material calculations.....and don't even know where they are now:confused:

I emailed the stove guy I bought all the fittings from. He said that there is no problem with putting a clean out "T" right on top of the stove. It won't look as cool as a 90, but the "T" is way more accessible than if I ran it behind the stove, so I think I am going to go ahead and start cutting the main floor. Also, a straight run flue with no turns is always better than anything else as far as draft goes.

I have to cut away a section of one of the floor trusses, then reinforce it, so more pic's to follow. The area that gets cut is outlined in red:

Motor Seven - Instead of the "T" right on top of the stove why not a draft balancer? I have one on my stoker stove and on windy days you can hear it closing due to the wind blowing across the top of the chimney. Technically you can use it to clean just by disconncting the flapper. I'm just sayin'. More 2¢. :)

PA, I'll look at that, do you have a picture of one?

One of the sections of the pipe I am using is a section of extendable Duravent DVL 48- 68" pipe. I had a suggestion on the Hearth forum to use that on top of the stove. To clean, just slide the pipe up, stick a bucket under it, brush, then remove the bucket.

While waiting for the glass, I decided to start on the front door build. Opening is 80"x42". I had Hickory stash that had been in the shed for about a year:

I milled the boards at 8/4:

I checked the moisture and it was between 14 and 15...ok for air dried, but it really needs to be down around 8 or I will experience "shrinkage" It should be minimal, so I am going to try and plan for it.

I cut them to length, then made a tongue:
