Ok, the mowing season is coming and I really fight with the cut my BX24 w/rpk60 mower gives me. 1st off I have the standard industrial tires which lays the grass down in the center of the tread and the deck doesn't lift it up even if I slow to a crawl. 2nd I've tried 4 different sets of blades high lift, mulch, standard and gator currently running gators. 3rd tried the mulching kit so rather than leaving "wind rows" I was getting "mulching clumps", removed it. So I've resorted to mowing and raising the deck 3/4" and mowing the "wind rows" a 2nd time. So on with the thought if I replaced the rpk60 bevel gears with rpk54 bevel gears I should get a faster Blade Tip Speed BTS increasing lift from the blades. Anyone know if this can be done and if it helped.

I have had the same problem with a Simplicity mower. The last thing I did helped a lot. I got mulching blades from Gator. They have a big wing on the back of the blade and really do help lift the grass. Cutting when the grass is dry also helps.

I agree with your blade speed question. I have used Simplicity mowers for years and always loved the cut. But when I bought this machine a while back the cut stunk. They had slowed the blades down. I think this was done for safety. I believe all blades must stop in a given time. I had also considered changing the main pulley to speed up the blades I was going to go to a smaller one but the change was gonna be a pain because of the way it was attached to the shaft.

I switched to the Meg-Mo blades on my out-front 72" mower. These blades are a 24" metal disc with four small swing-blades attached. You get twice the tip speed and lift and the cuttings are super fine. They do a great job.

what engine rpm are you running at for mowing?

Increase the height from front-to-back of the deck to the maximum.
I'm running just over 1/2" difference . Makes the front of the MMM
deck throw better. Keep the revs over 3200 if you're not getting enough
cuttings spread.

Twice the blades.......half the blank space between tips = twice the tip speed

Um yeah, it may cut better, but I don't see how the blades turn any faster unless you swapped pulleys.

Tip speed is a function of the RPM of the blade. You are getting twice the cutting action, but still at the original tip speed.

I am not saying that the RPM is increased, but if you think about the tip of the blade passing a stationary point and then count the time till it passes that point again, you are cutting that time in half by doubling the blades. Think about it.
