Here is something I built this winter using a video I saw on youtube as an example. I call it a limb processor. I haven't "fine tuned" it yet as I haven't started cutting wood yet, letting the snow melt off my roads and giving things a chance to dry out some.I hadn't yet threw any paint at it when I took these pics but I assure you it's all painted red now.take a look-

That's nice!!!:D... I really like that!!.. I hate cutting the small limbs up, and that looks like something I need to build!!!

I do have a couple old chainsaws that I quit using when I bought my new Husqvarna 455... On both of the old saws I had to take the chain-brake off and a few other parts... They would make great saws for the ''limb processor''!!!:D

Can you make a video when you start cutting firewood ??

I really should make a addon to my conveyor that will allow me to use the limb processor with that. That also handles small wood very well. I'm sure I could do this very easily. I have many oak on my lawns that have just gotten too big and need to come down this summer. Nothing says limb wood like a tall oak.

My setup is like this: I don't leave my brush in the woods so my last log (tree top) gets pulled out to the stump dump which is located on the way to the log pile. There I cut any limbs out that are to nice to push out over the brush pile and throw off to the side into a pile. That pile by the end of the summer is pretty large. I don't even unhook the top. I just cut the limbs off and jump back on the tractor and haul the log to the pile and unhook. on the way back I push all the brush over the back side of the stump dump. When the state is doing ditch work I get them to haul some gravel and dump around the edge and I cover the brush with it. after years of this (this is my second one) I end up with a large flat plateau out in the woods that used to be a side hill. This becomes grassy over the years and very handy for equipment parking. The whole thing is about making everything work for you and being efficient.

tbutman,
Why was Turner the choice for your wood processor? just curious.

Never gonna happen, but I've got two buddies in my neighborhood that burn wood. we go thru about 25 to 30 cord a year. Been dreaming about "time sharing" a processor. But these thoughts are after a couple of cold ones. best we stay good friends, and not get financially tied together.

Well, I shopped around a lot. My feeling were for the price these were the best on the market. He uses off the shelf readily come by components. And the other low end processors weren't capable of doing the 16"-20" wood like I have on my property. Granted if that's all you have you should shoot for a bigger piece of equipment but they are built so that it isn't even possible to do wood this size. The turner processor you can do the occasional 20" log and it just smiles at you. Though you may have to re split some of it. The hydraulically adjustable splitter doesn't quite line up right with the 20" wood. This processor is rugged and not stamped out cookie cutter fashion. They are built two at a time with attention to detail.

Not much better way to test out a processor, or splitter for that matter, than throwing 24" long 20"dia logs at it.

Indeed, It did teach me though, that my conveyor hopper bottom needed some flatbar drilled and screwed onto the wood bottom to help protect it after a split developed . Done like dinner now.

I sure can't blame you for getting the processor. I usually burn five cords but this year I decided to try to get two years ahead, so I can let the wood dry properly. I put about 1/3 to 1/2 of my free time towards this and as of now I have about 12 cords all cut down and 4-5 of that is split. I started with zero at the beginning of December and it feels like it has been a long season. If I had to do 20 each year no way would I be able to find the time without a machine like that. You have my respect.

Look and see if you have an older saw with a top loading fuel and oil reservoir.
