I think Roy and Smalltown are correct. I asked my dealer about this once and he told me that when lifting the rear wheels off the ground, you have to flip the loader bucket all the way so the front edges are touching the ground. Giving support to the front of the tractor. Otherwise you can create a rocking effect when digging putting excessive stress on the center section of the tractor. I"ve dug both ways and can say that I have felt the front end come up a little when the loader bucket is just sitting on the ground.

There is a good chance this happened by being hit by an automobile. I think that is my friends old tractor. He had a 3720 which got broke in half. His tractor was set up the same as the one in the pic and it happened in PA.

I think I remember reading somewhere that JD had issues with the back hoes breaking he tractor in half. I couldn't find it right off the bat, but I'll try a little harder.

A break @ the bell housing is not uncommom as you might think. It could have been stuck and pulled into by another tractor. Thats how most that I have heard of breaking have happened.

Same thing here.

The tractors I've heard of breaking in two were pulled from a poor angle (aka the side) when stuck.

Looking at the grill guard that might have happened to this machine.... but you think a tractor this small would come loose before snapping in two.....

Made me sad to see such a nice machine destroyed like that. I can only wonder how the operator felt when it broke apart, if there was someone on it at the time....
