If you don't mind me asking, what are you guys seeing for an out the door price on these models?

I run a 6ft brush bull (Woods bush hog), use a 6ft. KK tiller, and have never had an issue. Granted, this may be very limited in comparison to what others use and/or need.

Interesting to hear that you are running a 6ft KK tiller with a DK40. I am trying to decide about the target PTO hp for my next tractor and the highest demand implement I have is KK TG72 tiller, which according to the specs needs 35 to 50 hp PTO. I would probably consider DK40SE HST CAB model my first option but have been debating also between DK45 or DK50 and Mahindra 5010 because of this tiller hp requirement.

I have a DK40se and run the 6ft KK tiller. No problem at all. Cuts old sod at about 2200 rpm in low range without breaking a sweat.

I run a 6' King Kutter II tiller on my DK 35 with no problem and its the older model/style DK 35 (before the DKse series) with 34 HP and 28.3 PTO HP.

Careful now, A/C in the cab is going to rob 5-7 hp, so if you're marginal to start, you may find you have to turn the A/C off to make it work. Not a big deal if it were a snow blower, but a tiller may be a different story. I'd start by looking at the DK45 and do some soul searching over spending the extra money on the DK50.

I do alot of loader work on hilly terrain. I would say that 24 hours of the 26 hours on the machine were loader work. [I have only had it for a few weeks, give me a break!!] In my case the $800 premium was worth it. If I could have gotten a 60hp unit I would have. So you have to be 100% honest with yourself in what you want. If PTO HP is what you want I would go with the 45 if you need drive HP for pushing or breaking out dirt then the more the better. The HST pump is in the 20+ GPM range depending on RPM and stroke. At 5000psi [relief setting] the pump requires 70 HP. CJ

No, the DK40 has plenty of spare power to run the tiller. We have guys reporting the DK35 (older version) has plenty of power. We have guys reporting that the DK40se can run the tiller through thick virgin sod at well less than PTO engine speed. Why raise a purely speculative concern that runs directly counter to established experience? Besides, I seriously doubt the A/C load is even 5hp much less 7hp, where did those numbers come from?

What is this about "20+ GPM" from the hydraulic pump? 16.8 GPM is the published figure if I recall correctly.

I spin my tires pushing into dirt piles or against trees while using a 41hp DK40se at less than PTO speed in four wheel assist. How exactly will extra horsepower help me?

My dealer. When I went through the process of buying my cab and deciding to either keep my tractor or trade for a cab tractor, my dealer cautioned me about A/C with the DK35 cab because they've had complaints about a lack of power while the A/C is on. They told me 5-7 hp and I'm pretty sure I've read that elsewhere as well, although I can't tell you exactly where.

Since I don't have a DK40 with 72" tiller, I can't say for sure, but the OP is concerned about PTO hp, more so it seems then first hand experience. With that in mind, the A/C is going to reduce what the OP considers the inadequate PTO hp of the DK40. Correct me if I'm wrong, but none of the other posters who've used a 72" tiller with a DK machine were also running A/C.

That is correct but when I run the tiller even breaking sod I don't need full horsepower. The 40 has reserve available. Besides, tilling is done spring or fall but almost never mid summer when A/C is likely to be used.

Based on my experience with a non cab 40, I would go with the upgrade to cab45 only if doing a lot of thick grass or brush mowing mid summer. As most of us only use 6ft mowers, and as grass is most difficult to mow in late spring or early summer when it is lush and thick, I'd suggest people really think through their intended tasks and how those intersect with A/C needs before making a decision. If you need max A/C in May you might want the extra HP but if your A/C needs are when grasses are dry then you could save the money or get an extra implement instead of spending a grand or two on 4 extra HP.
