3-Point Hitch 4' or 5' tiller for CK20S?

Need some advice from more experienced tractor owners.
I plan to buy a rotary tiller from Tractor Supply for my CK20S.
First, what service can one expect from the TS tillers? The 4' and 5' are the same price.
Second, I know the 5' model is too large for the CK20 but I planned to remove one set of tines to bring the width down to about 52". That way if I ever get a larger tractor I would have the larger tiller to match.

Or, should I just go with the 4' tiller as the 5' unit is about a 60lbs. heavier?

I think a 5 footer would be fine. I have a 52" Woods tiller and don't think a few more inches would bother it at all. Buy the larger one, you may need the extra width. At 52" it covers the tire prints by just a inch or so.

Unless you are working in very heavy clay soil, I would certainly get the 5 foot version. In low range the CK20 has a lot of grunt and should have no problem. If tilling new areas with heavy sod, you might have to overlap a foot or so on the first pass but the CK20 will do the job.

I'd go with the larger one if your like most tractor owners you'll probably trade up some day

I have a 50 inch Agric that I bought when I had my B6200 Kubota, it ran it quite well and my CK20 runs it way better. I have tilled some fairly heavy sodded soils and am confident a CK20 would run a 5 footer with little problem, in sod or really heavy soil you might just have to travel a little slower on first passes. I ended up with a 60 inch KingCutter which works fine on my CT120 with 14hp at the pto in my peat/sandy loam soil with no rocks. The hydrostatic transmission allows me to adjust my speed to conditions. I can always remove some of the tines if I think there is not enough power and still be able to cover my tire tracks. Plus I feel that a 60 inch tiller will sell better when I give up gardening some time in the future (when I'm dead).

I have a 48" KK on my CK20 which I have used very hard and a lot of hours on it.( to the point most the blades are about half worn) . On anything but heavy wet clay you hardly know its there. If I start to bog down in clay or sod you just slow down. I almost wish I had bought a 5', I know it would handle it and I'm sure the newer 22hp models would in most cases. Go for it.
