I saw these the other day and thought they would be good on hills or elsewhere.

First I've never used a zero turn.

I heard the stories that they are terrible on hills and because of that I had basically removed zero turns from the list of options for replacing my current riding mower.

What I'm getting from what you guys are saying is that the lack of traction due to there tires is the real issue.

If it's just a traction issue then maybe a zero turn will do they do mow fast.

I have some steep areas that require mowing going side ways and if it goes to slipping it will slide into my pond and land in about 6 - 8 feet of water.

Not all ZTs are created equal. Our property is very hilly and ZT is only way we could mow it. We have Grasshopper 725 mid mounted ZT. The mid mounted is the key.

Yeah, JJ, that would solve all our traction problems and aerate the yard at the same time.

I put some bar lug tires on my JD lawn mower because it would slip on grade and my dealer told me that while it would work, it would put extra strain on the tranny. He said that the mfg wanted it to slip because that protected the tranny from high torque loads.

Thanks

You wouldn't have a picture of it by chance?

Here is a link. Our has 62" deck. I think even bigger deck is available. My bad. Actually it is front mounted. I was thinking about the tractor being in the middle of the machine so it could climb slopes without flipping backwards. We mow dam of our pond that is about 30 - 40 deg.

You may be able to get free ROPS, Roll Over Protection, from Toro. They say that they will outfit their zero turns with free ROPS if they are not installed. Check out this link from them, and give them a call, it would be worth it, especially is they are free!

That's a nice deal. The Timecutter is a consumer grade mower so it would not qualify for a ROPS.
