Thanks to the feedback here I purchased a 5' TS Countyline tiller for my CK20.
The measured tines width was 43" on the 4' tiller and 55" on the 5' unit. If the CK20 feels overloaded by the 5 footer I will remove a row of tines.

The tiller came with a clutch installed on the PTO shaft, but I am pretty sure it is for torque limiting only.

Do I need to install an overrunning clutch to use with the tiller?

Also the advertised weight of the 5' tiller is 630Lbs. Is this well within the range for the CK20's 3-point hitch?

Thanks, the information on this forum has been very helpful to this new tractor owner.

Did you get a manual for your tractor and tiller? Your answers to your questions should be in there.

I think you may mean "slip clutch" rather then an overrunning clutch. An overrunning clutch is (usually) to prevent the implement from driving the tractor's PTO.
Many tractors haver overrunning clutches built into the PTO gearbox.

A slip clutch is to prevent a sudden stop (of the drive implement) from damaging the tractor's PTO.

Now, before you buy anything...determine exactly what you have. That "torque limiting" clutch does sound like it's a slip clutch and "pretty sure" isn't good enough.

As far as the weight of the tiller...read your tractor's operators manual. It will list the 3PH capacity in the manual (look under "Specifications"). You should have done this before buying the tiller, don't you think?

Guys,

Thanks for the replies.
I was seeking information from someone who had PRACTICAL knowledge of the Tractor Supply tiller setup with the CK20 tractor.

I know the difference between an overrunning and slip/torque limiting clutch.
I know the lift capacity for the CK20 3-point hitch.
Just looking for someone who might have the same combination that could share their PRACTICAL experience.

Thanks again.

Tractors are tractors, Bro...there's not that much difference (when it comes to function) between 'em really.

I just went to the KK website and looked at the tiller discription. It definitely says it is equipped with a SLIP CLUTCH. It will be mounted just in front of the gearbox.

Hi hfields,
Pretty sure you don't need an overrun clutch, it should be built in to the PTO gearbox as someone else already posted.

With the slip clutch you need to back off the bolts with the springs on them when your done using it for a while, if you don't you can run into trouble if it seizes, you can cause expensive damage to your tractor if it's locked up from moisture getting to it. Especially if it's stored outside. Not sure if you already knew this, just thought I should let you know any way. Have fun chopping the dirt.:)

Aren't slip clutches set to a certain PTO HP rating?

I have the same tiller I called the company and they told me the following,

"Tiller clutch adjust, loosen nuts till springs are loose. Run a few revolution to make sure clutch is not stuck.
Retighten 2 turn when spring makes contact, try to till if slipping make 1 more turn on all nuts."

As far as removing a row of tines why not overlap your tilling by a foot, easier than removing anything.
I am assuming you are in low range first gear while tilling. I have a few more HP than your tractor and can only get low 3rd, second pass tilling on light soil.

Not necessarily, they simply slip if the implement jambs for whatever reason to protect the PTO and gears.

I have a couple on different implements. Usually I set them for the type of work I'm doing. If I run the bush hog on a field that I know is basically high grass I set the slip clutch very loose just beyond the point of slippage. If I do hit a rock or stump it spins easily.

On my tiller I also back off the clutch bolts, we have a lot of rocks here and it's not uncommon for the tiller to get one wedged in the tines. The other thing I do is run the engine speed slowly. Most times it conks out before the clutch slips which is fine by me.

I do everything I can to protect my PTO, that should be the priority. Err on the side of too loose, you can always tighten things up.

As Roy said, a tractor is a tractor, this works with any tractor.
