Just to defend the rebuilt ratchet comment.

Unless the body is damaged. Replacing the ratchet mechanism is all you need to do. Couple of parts and a snap ring and your back in business.

I understand though if the handle was damaged and they refused replacement.

Chuck

Years ago, I worked for NAPA. They had the same repair not replace policy. Fixed a ratchet for a customer over his objections. He came back a few hours later with it broken again and blood knuckles. I gave him a new ratchet a cold drink and sincere apologies.

Took the bad one apart and found striped teeth in the head. That was the last repair we ever did.

The warranty was lifetime, no questions asked.

Don't make a promise that you can not keep.

I'm stlll waiting for Sears to respond to my email requests about this "partner" of theirs called Ponderosa. Seems that "partner" buys from Harbor Freight, marks the items up several hundred percent and advertises the outrageous prices on Sears "partneship" website. To add insult to injury, (well to slap you on the A** after screwing you) Ponderosa charges an equally inflated shipping charge to increase the price even more.

So far, Sears has chosen to ignore my requests to check into these business schemes with their "partner" so I just keep emailing them. Sooner or later I suppose I'll give up, but for now, I've still got time to call out Sears on what I believe is an unenethical business practice. What Sears is doing sure does reinforce my ideas about how that once "great place to shop" has become just another overpriced store on the verge of bankrupcy. Too bad, if they'd managed to remain "above board" in this kind of thing, "methinks" they may have still had respect and loyalty from their customer base.

I got a responce to my email from them. The give me sears points or something. But thats because i did a review of the product and they didnt like it. (it wasn't positive) That air cutter is their cash cow...

For those who havent see the concern compare these two links. same item but the price is well... you decide. Ive emailed sears and they dont seem to care .

:thumbsup:WOW I got a response.
it is as follows

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for contacting Sears.com. I understand that you are concerned about the same link and price of the product.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused about the two same links and I see that this item is sold by one of our market place merchant Ponderosa A. We do allow many of the third party merchants to sell their products in our website and I recommend you to contact the Ponderosa A. at 877-938-0004 to get assistance regarding the price of the item.

We want to make you happy. Please take our survey to tell us how we're doing.

Sincerely,

Miguel S. (msharie)

Obviously they don't seem to either 'get it' or they simply want to blame someone else.A third party has it advertised with them but ultimately they must be responsible or at least concerned about their reputation.

Great PR work Mr Sears

Nope sure didnt. But I bought from them for 30 plus years and have seen the decline ..My only beef against them is their dis regard for the customer.. But in the end its their loss..

also this

Whats obvious here is they are taking harbor freight stuff and marking it way up. I know this happens on eball all the time. Thats fine. But it speaks volumes fror sears and how low thye have stooped.must be why the local one closed the doors two months ago assuring people they were 'moving'' yet have yet to open anywhere close.

Sears is a money *****. For $39.99 a month and 7%~20% commission you too could be buying cheap items at HF and then selling them on Sears.com. You could even undercut Ponderosa A's prices. Just think one sucker a month buying at a 1000x markup could pay for a new attachment for your tractor.
If you think about it that guy has a pretty good idea. For the price he's selling HF **** he can afford to replace it if breaks and still make a huge profit. It only would take a couple of sales a year to pay Sears fees.

Yup, Ponderosa A is a "take advantage" kind of "Merchant" (stated loosely). You gotta remember, at the end of the day, when I take off my grimey clothes and look in the mirror, the ugly old codger I see looking back at me can still smile and say, "I'm proud of what you did today" without having to look away thinking about how many people I screwed by upcharging junk to unsuspecting folks who are thinking that they are buying quality merchandise from one of America's greatest traditions (again stated loosely) called Sears... Now, long ago it used to be called Sears and Robuck. I wonder if something happened to Mr Robuck or if he was just too honest to do what Mr Sears and Ponderosa A think is a way to make money..... Hmmmm
